Do any of you remember the old Energizer Bunny commercials? You know, the one that says "we just keep on going and going and going..."? Well, if you do not, the perfect example of the Energizer Bunny is Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne.

After contemplating retirement over the offseason, Selanne has come out and picked up where he left off last season. In 14 games this season, the 41-year-old "Finnish Flash" has 14 points on 5 goals and 9 assists. These numbers are good for first on the team and, amazingly, fifth in the National Hockey League.

To everyone that watches him or is a fan of Selanne, this should come as no surprise. He loves to play the game and he loves winning, something that the Ducks are struggling to do on a consistent basis this season.

Recently, Selanne gave his thoughts on his team's play to Dan Wood of the Ducks' web site:

“Very disappointing, obviously, for everybody last night,” a more calm but still clearly concerned Selanne told a group of reporters Wednesday after the club’s practice session at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers.

“I think it’s time for everybody to look in the mirror, be honest if you can be
better and what you can bring for the team,” Selanne said. “This is not enough. We all can play better. You have to push yourself. We have to push each other. It’s not time to be a nice guy anymore. Sometimes it hurts, but you have to do it.”

This season, Selanne has shown that he can play the game at an extremely high level. He has a nose for the net, is not afraid to shoot the puck, gets to the open spaces and also creates scoring opportunities for his linemates whether it is even strength or on the power play.

Selanne's peers call him the fastest 40 year old the NHL has ever seen, which is another sign that he has not lost a step. That is pretty impressive, considering he has been on the verge of retiring ever since the Ducks won the Stanley Cup in 2007.

It is obvious that the Ducks will need him to continue to do all of that throughout the rest of this season if they want to have any kind of chance of getting into the Stanley Cup Playoffs during Selanne's last season.
