Sergei Kostitsyn is the latest Predator overseas as of Sunday Morning. There was never any doubt that Sergei was going to play in the KHL in the event of a prolonged lockout; he has been living in Belarus for the entire summer and had not returned to America due to lockout concerns. It appears that he has finally settled on a the Avangard Omsk, who play out of Omsk which is in South/Central Russia. This tweet by @theFourthPeriod Broke the news today

Nashville Predators forward Sergei Kostitsyn has signed with Avangard Omsk of the KHL, joining Blue Jackets D Nikita Nikitin.

Omsk play in a good sized stadium, by the KHL standards, that holds just over 10,000. The team is captained by the past LA King's forward Alexander Frolov and as you saw in the tweet they have also acquired Nikita Nikitin from the Blue Jackets. There most successful years were in 2004 and 2005 where they first won the Russian SuperLigue and then the IIHF champions cup, which is a super cool competition that NHL fans are deprived of. It is an interesting choice for Sergei as some were expecting him to play closer to his hometown or at least with some of his Belarusian international team friends, but Avangard is both quite far from Belarus and completely void of Belarusians. During the last lockout, Kostitsyn was still playing in the Juniors.

Sincs Kostitsyn is already on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, he could join the team as soon as October 10th for their game against Atlant. Avangard also play Monday night, but it is unlikely that all that needs to get done is completed before then.
