Dan Boyle and Joe Pavelski got San Jose's struggling power-play unit going with goals that helped the Sharks beat the Nashville Predators 2-1 on Saturday night. The Sharks had converted on just three of their past 62 power-play chances heading into the game, a major reason for a February swoon that featured 10 losses in 12 games. But with the man-advantage unit clicking like it did in scoring 12 goals the first five games, San Jose again looked like the team that started the lockout-shortened season with a franchise record seven straight wins in January. Joe Thornton and Logan Couture assisted on both goals, and Antti Niemi made 18 saves for the Sharks, who moved from a tie for eighth into a tie for fourth in the tightly packed Western Conference, one point ahead of the Predators. The Predators were hoping for a better result after practicing on the two off days in San Jose following a 5-1 loss at Anaheim on Wednesday night. Instead they fell for the sixth time in eight game...

Sharks GM Doug Wilson wants team to shoot more

Let’s face it. The Sharks stink right now. They went 2-6-4 in February thanks to some pretty atrocious goal-scoring numbers and have fallen completely out of a playoff spot. Something obviously needs to change if this team wants any chance at playing in the postseason. So what needs to change? The coach? Player? Pregame menu? According the Sharks GM Doug Wilson, it’s how the...

Did the Sharks lack confidence through February?  Well, obviously, but in what?  What has been dragging them down?  Have they dealt with "it" yet? I had a thought yesterday morning, stemming from something one of the Bulls said to me weeks ago.  He mentioned that the offensive game comes first for most players.  They learn defense later with experience.  It wasn...

Predators-Sharks Preview

Scoreboard operators got a bit of a break during the first two meetings between the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks, and it doesn't appear things will change this time around at the rate they've put pucks in the net recently.
