Make it nine losses in a row. The Carolina Hurricanes were beaten 5-1 by the San Jose Sharks on Sunday at the RBC Center. The Canes (2-8-3), who have not won since Oct. 9 against Florida, led 1-0 early in the second on Brandon Sutter's second goal in as many games, then quickly gave it up to trail 3-1 after two periods. The Sharks (10-4-1), who have won their last five games, added a Marc-Eduoard Vlasic goal 4:20 into the third for a 4-1 lead. The score came five seconds after Ray Whitney couldn't convert a 2-on-1 with Erik Cole. The Sharks pushed the lead to 5-1 on Patrick Marleau's power-play goal.  Eric Staal did not return for the third period with what was called an upper-body injury. Sutter scored at 2:48 with a hard wrister. But Kent Huskins answered for the Sharks at 4:05, then Brad Staubitz scored at 5:27 for a 2-1 lead.
