Joe Pavelski scored a minute into the game to start a three-goal first period spree, Antti Niemi earned his second shutout of the season and the San Jose Sharks swept a home-and-home against first-place Anaheim by beating the Ducks 4-0 on Wednesday night. Patrick Marleau and Brent Burns also scored in the opening 10 minutes and Niemi made 22 saves for the Sharks, who have back-to-back regulation wins for the first time in two months. Tommy Wingels added a short-handed goal and two assists to get San Jose off to a strong start to a crucial seven-game homestand. The Sharks moved into a tie for seventh place with St. Louis in the Western Conference. The Ducks followed up a 5-3 home loss to the Sharks by coming out completely flat in the return game. Anaheim has lost four straight games in regulation following a 12-game streak with at least one point. This is the Ducks' longest skid since Bruce Boudreau took over as coach Nov. 30, 2011. The losing streak follows an emotional win...

Perry's sucker-punch of Boyle leads to brawl

Dan Boyle and Corey Perry got into a good old punch-flinging fight in Wednesday night’s Avalanche-Sharks game, but the scrap hardly had the best punch of the night. While Boyle and Perry duked it out in the third period and got their respective penalty minutes, the real fun came a few minutes before, when the Sharks went up 4-0. As San Jose took off down the ice on an odd-man rush...

Sharks 2, Red Wings 0

Antii Niemi made 27 saves for his second shutout in two nights and the San Jose Sharks won their third straight game in regulation, beating the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 on Thursday. Joe Pavelski and Brent Burns each scored for the third consecutive game for the Sharks, who are on their longest winning streak since starting the season with seven straight wins. San Jose had won just...

Pavel Datsyuk breaks Logan Couture’s ankles with filthy deke

Despite the Detroit Red Wings losing to the San Jose Sharks 2-0, Pavel Datsyuk still managed to entertain everyone with a fancy dangle out of his bag of tricks.  San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture, who was celebrating his 24th birthday, got a special gift from Pavel Datsyuk in the early stages of the 1st period.  Couture tried to stay with Datsyuk in the corner and was completely...

Red Wings shutout by Sharks

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Antii Niemi made 27 saves for his second shutout in two nights and the San Jose Sharks won their third straight game in regulation, beating the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 on Thursday. Joe Pavelski and Brent Burns each scored for the third consecutive game for the Sharks, who are on their longest winning streak since starting the season with seven straight wins...

The Latest On Ryane Clowe

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, Clowe has a full no-trade clause. The San Jose Sharks have to run this thing by him in order to get a deal done. Which means if, for whatever reason, Clowe doesn’t believe a certain team is a good fit, he can nix it. Although, in the same vein, Sharks GM Doug Wilson did well by Douglas Murray in the move to Pittsburgh, the sense is that Wilson...

Dan Boyle goes berserk on Corey Perry after 'sucker-punch'

The gloves literally flew off both Dan Boyle and Corey Perry's hands after the San Jose Shark's defenseman took offense at his one-time Team Canada teammate Perry's stick to the ribs late in the third period of the Shark's 4-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Boyle flipped out after they batted all game but it seemed like known agitator Perry's contact on a shorthanded...

VIDEO: Pavel Datsyuk sits Logan Couture down with another incredible deke

Add Logan Couture to the long list of players that have been victimized by Paval Datsyuk’s craftiness. Thursday night the magician Datsyuk was able to knock San Jose’s Logan Couture off his feet without even touching him. Instead Datsyuk used one of his patented dekes to take Couture out of the play and totally embarrass the San Jose forward on his home ice.

Dan Boyle drop gloves with Corey Perry after sucker punch (Video)

Pretty outstanding effort from the Sharks these last two games (how often have we said that since January?), outscoring the Ducks, the second-best team in the West right now, 9-3. Maybe Ducks winger Corey Perry, a recent recipient of a $69 million contract extension, was sick of it by the time the Sharks scored what proved to be the final goal of Wednesday night’s contest, a shorty...

Pavel Datsyuk’s dangles made Logan Couture fall down and go boom (VIDEO)

Pavel Datsyuk could dangle his way out of a straight jacket.  Thursday during the Red Wings-Sharks game, Datsyuk got fancy in the corner against Sharks center Logan Couture.  Couture was left grasping for air as he landed on his tuckus. Fox Sports Detroit’s Mickey Redmond absolutely loved it, and rightfully so.

Pavel Datsyuk puts Logan Couture on his ass in his birthday suit

Happy birthday, Logan Couture. Pavel Datsyuk is here to remind you how slippery that ice can be: Muahahahaha! UPDATE: Logan Couture was cool about it:  Hey @datsyuk13 really bro? On my bday...cmonnnn.. Someone fix that ice in the corner..youtube.com/watch?v=LwyVi6… — Logan Couture (@Logancouture) March 29, 2013

Red Wings-Sharks game-day updates: Tootoo in, Griffins post a spiffy video, #PulkkinenWatch on?

The Detroit Red Wings hope to sweep their Western U.S. road trip when they face off against the San Jose Sharks (10:30 PM EDT, FSD/CSN Bay Area/97.1 FM) tonight, but they face a particularly dificult task as the Sharks have handed the Ducks back-to-back losses, are desperate to improve their place in the Western Conference standings and plan on making good on game #2 of a 7-game...

Red Wings-Sharks set-up and overnight report: Wings looking to sweep road trip and trade talk

The Detroit Red Wings face quite the task in attempting to both sweep their Western U.S. road trip against the San Jose Sharks tonight (10:30 PM EDT, FSD/CSN Bay Area/97.1 FM) and keep the Sharks off their backs for a simple reason: while the Wings spent Tuesday relaxing and Wednesday getting back to work, the Sharks did the exact same thing to Anaheim that the Wings did on Friday...

About Last Night…Sharks Blank Ducks on a Wingles and a Prayer

Tommy Wingles had a goal and two assists for the San Jose Sharks as they blanked the Anaheim Ducks 4-0. Antti Niemi said no to all 22 Anaheim shots and Logan Couture had two assists in the win. SPIN: Wingles’ three-point night gives him 10 points for the season. He might have a breakout like this every now and again but isn’t roster-worthy in anything but large or deep leagues...
