Jonathan Quick and the Los Angeles Kings were simply better than the San Jose Sharks Thursday night. There’s no over analysis necessary, no need to look for reasons things didn’t go the Sharks’ way, the Kings outplayed them. It’s truly as simple as that.
Quick was perfect in the net for the Kings, saving all 24 shots that came his way as he blanked San Jose for the second time this playoff series.
Anze Kopitar gave the Kings a 1-0 lead at 18:08 in the second period and Los Angeles never had any reason to look back. Third period goals by Slava Voynov and Jeff Carter proved to be just icing on the cake as the Kings took a 3-2 series lead heading back to San Jose Sunday night for Game 6, and their first attempt to eliminate the Sharks.
San Jose found themselves 0-for-3 on the power play, dropping themselves to 0-for-10 on the power play on the road this series.
“The power play was brutal. We didn’t deserve to win tonight,” Sharks center Logan Couture said.
