While everybody continues to wait in anticipation of a potential Ryane Clowe trade, Sharks GM Doug Wilson pulled off another swap on Monday.
The Sharks sent center Michal Handzus to the Blackhawks in exchange for a 2013 fourth-round draft pick. He reportedly waived his no-trade clause in order for the swap to go through. The draft pick originally belonged to San Jose, which sent it to Chicago in a draft-day trade last year.
It’s really a something-for-nothing trade from the Sharks’ perspective. Outside of shootouts, the Jacob from “Lost” lookalike has been largely ineffective for the team this season. The 36-year-old has just one goal, one assist and a -9 in 28 games. He was a healthy scratch for the previous six games entering Monday’s win over the Canucks.

TSN's Bob MacKenzie is reporting the Hawks have acquired veteran center Michal Handzus from the Sharks for a 4th round pick.
While some might be disappointed, I actually think this is a nice pickup for the stretch run. I've always been a fan of Zus. And even at his advanced age and glacial skating pace, he can be an effective penalty killing center...
from Louis-Andre Lariviere of TVA Sports (translated with a little editing by me),
Kent Hughes, Clowe's agent officer, told the TVA Sports as the Sharks try to exchange the attacker. Namely if the trade transaction can occur as early as Monday night, given the withdrawal of Clowe from tonight's game training, Hughes responded that it is a precaution. "A match...
Yesterday the Chicago Blackhawks traded for San Jose Sharks Center Michal Handzus, who once possessed one of the greatest mullets in hockey history. In honor of Michal Handzus’s once proud mullet, let’s take a look at some other great hockey mullets.

Ryane Clowe and Derek Brassard: Welcome to New York. Brian Boyle: Welcome back. These three led the Rangers in the complete dismantling of the Penguins tonight, scoring a powerplay goal and at least three points each, and four of the Rangers first five goals en route to a 6-1 win. Boyle and Brassard had a goal and three assists each, and Clowe scored two (his first two of the season...

The trade deadline is today at 3pm, and the Rangers have already been active. They’ve acquired Ryane Clowe for draft picks, and are rumored to be in on Ryan O’Byrne, a right handed defenseman form Colorado. Jamie McBain was a name rumored to be available, but with Joni Pitkanen getting hurt, it’s unlikely the Canes move him.

After trading Ryane Clowe to the New York Rangers yesterday, the Sharks have bolstered their strength by adding Raffi torres for a 2013 third rounder. On July 1, 2011, Torres signed a two-year contract worth $3.5 million with the Phoenix Coyotes. He recorded his first goal nearly a month into the 2011–12 season, in a 3–2 shootout loss [...]
