Jussi Jokinen expected to go on waivers today. #Canes Surely he will attract some interest? — Hockeyy Insiderr (@HockeyyInsiderr) March 26, 2013 I don't know how legit Hockey Insider is, but there has been a lot of controversy over Carolina forward Jussi Jokinen. Jokinen, 29 years old is off to his worst start of his career. (5goals 5 assists) and a minus 7. I say if Jokinen is available the Bruins should try him out. It sucks that the season is almost over, but it would be a better option to obtain someone without giving anyone up, instead of sending a number of prospects for an aging veteran at the end of his career (Jagr/ Iginla) who might not exactly have enough in the tank to help the B's. Jokinen is 29 years old, so he has a lot of hockey to be played. Maybe a shakeup of scenery with a team that is committed to winning could spark him. Heck, he's better than Pandolfo and Bourque. As the trade deadline ascends on us, a lot of rumors will be flung around. The Br...

Jussi Jokinen placed on waivers

With the Hurricanes currently in a tough losing streak, most people figured that there were going to be some changes to the roster very soon and we saw one of those moves today with Jussi Jokinen being placed on waivers. To most people, this move came as a surprise because Jokinen is known to most people as a "top-six player," a good face-off guy and a solid play-maker...

Richard Cloutier: Jokinen Clears Waivers

There's something funny about this. I know "collusion" is a strong word, but you can't tell me some team out there somewhere doesn't have an interest in Carolina Hurricanes forward Jussi Jokinen, who just cleared waivers. Maybe teams have agreed not to take each other's guys? No takers for Jokinen makes no sense to me. There still could be an Oilers...

Caps Miss Golden Opportunity to ‘Jussi’ Up Their Lineup

Jussi Jokinen could have been a good addition to the Caps, but they passed.

Hurricanes D Jamie McBain whiffs on clearing attempt, scores on own net (video)

During the team’s sixth-straight loss courtesy of dropping Tuesday night’s tilt against the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 4-1, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jamie McBain suffered an epic whiff for the ages. When trying to clear the puck out of the defensive zone, McBain whiffed horribly, missing the puck. As his stick returned to to the ice, he inadvertently propelled the puck...

McBain scores on his own net with backswing

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jame McBain had some very bad luck against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.  He went to clear the puck after Joni Pitkanen broke up Jets’ forward Evander Kane’s passing attempt.  McBain fanned on the first clearing attempt and then when he brought his stick back for a second attempt he fired it right past his own goalie.  The goal ended up...

The Charlotte Checkers announced today the team has signed goaltender Mike Murphy to a professional tryout contract. Carolina inks Alexander Semin to a five-year, $35 million extension

Prior to the 2013 season, hockey fans wondered which team would take a chance on free agent Alexander Semin. Coming off seven seasons with the Washington Capitals, Semin landed in Carolina with a one-year deal worth $7 million.  How has the Semin experiment worked for the Hurricanes? Pretty well, actually. Through 30 games, Semin has eight goals and 22 assists for a total of...

Carolina's Jamie McBain accidentally scores on his own net

The good news: Jamie McBain scored a goal in his team's 4-1 defeat against Winnipeg. The bad news: Jamie McBain's goal went into his own net. As McBain desperately tried to clear the puck from the front of his net, he swung at the puck, missed it, and knocked the puck into his own net when he brought his stick back to the ice. It's safe to say that Evander Kane, the...

Richard Cloutier: Will Wednesday be Wicked?

This could be a crazy day for the Oilers. Or... There could be a big pile of inactivity. Which scenario would you rather? Option 1: The Oilers pass up on/don't have the successful waiver claim for Jussi Jokinen. The Danny DeKeyser thing does not happen. Therefore, the Oilers move forward with the same roster going into Thursday's game, which might not be a bad...

Game 31 By the Numbers: Jets at Hurricanes

Yesterday marked the Hurricanes sixth loss in a row and the third time they lost by a score of 4-1 during this stretch. No matter how many times we hear from the coaches or the players that the "playoffs" are right now, fans keep getting treated to the same performances night in and night out. Last night's performance against Winnipeg was very disheartening because...
