New York Islanders
Those who were wondering how effective Sidney Crosby would be in his first game back didn’t have to wait long to find out.
The Penguins star, who skated with a softball-style facemask Friday night after missing 13 games with a broken jaw, wasted no time getting his name back on the scoresheet. Crosby scored twice in the first eight minutes of Game 2 as Pittsburgh built an early 3-1 lead on the Islanders.
After smoking the Isles 5-0 in Game 1 of the teams’ first-round series, the Penguins seemed well on their way to a second blowout in three days.
Check out Crosby’s two tallies in the video below.
Isles make a statement
Alternate captain Kyle Okposo made sure the No. 8 seed did not go quietly, though, as the Islanders winger gave his team a much-needed jolt in the second period.
After Pittsburgh’s Matt Niskanen laid out Matt Moulson with an open-ice hit, Okposo went after him, and the two dropped the gloves in a spirited bout. Niskanen ended up getting th...

Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby will return to action tonight as his team faces off against the New York Islanders in game two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This is Crosby’s first game back, and first of the post-season, since taking a puck to the face in late March against the New York Islanders. Sidney [...]
From late April to late June I take a sabbatical from life, my own personal hiatus. It’s called the Stanley Cup playoffs. When I’m watching two to three hockey games a night, some things need to take a back burner.
With three West Coast series in the first round it’s guaranteed that I won’t be getting to bed before midnight most nights. Add in a T-Bell run after watching...
Via the Pens:
The Pens are on the ice practicing. Only James Neal was absent. Paul Martin missed the early portion of practice (so he did not skate in rushes). Sidney Crosby skated with his former linesmates Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis. Here were the rushes...
In his first game back from a broken jaw, Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby buried a goal against the New York Islanders.
PITTSBURGH — It’s game on for Sidney Crosby.
The Penguins’ star says he will play Friday night in Game 2 of the playoff series with the New York Islanders after missing more than a month with a broken jaw. Crosby skated with usual linemates Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kuntiz on Friday morning and expects to be in the lineup as Pittsburgh tries to go up 2-0 in the best-of-seven...
With two goals in the first period against the New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby blew up the Twitter-verse.
I might have to admit, that I agree with Mike Milbury and Jeremy Roenick on this one here. I thought it was a bad call. I also thought that Sidney Crosby went down really easy. The word embellishment was on the tip of my tongue as well, after I saw the play live.
If I am not mistaken, they're kind of accusing Sidney Crosby of taking a bit of a dive there... Is that what others...
On Friday night, the New York Islanders won their first playoff game since 2007. Kyle Okposo’s first career playoff goal with 7:37 remaining lifted the New York Islanders to a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.Matt Moulson, Colin McDonald and Matt Martin also scored for the Islanders, who spoiled Sidney Crosby’s comeback from a broken jaw by rallying from an early two...
Just a few things that caught my eye:
Pass the WD-40 - Sidney Crosby says he felt rusty. He only scored two goals on eight shots and won 53.8 percent of his face-offs. I can't wait to see what the penetrating oil knocks loose next game.
Patrick Kane's stickhandling ability is absolutely sick. He made that fourth goal happen and in a phone booth, to boot...
The New York Islanders knew their effort would have to be better to avoid a repeat performance in Game 1 when they were whitewashed in a 5-0 Penguins victory. Playing against Sidney Crosby looked like it was going to be an uphill battle ten minutes into the first period. But the Islanders settled down and chipped away at a 3-1 Pittsburgh lead to come back and win Game 2.The Penguins...
Kyle Okposo's first career playoff goal with 7:37 remaining lifted the New York Islanders to a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night, evening their playoffs series at one game each.
Matt Moulson, Colin McDonald and Matt Martin also scored for the Islanders, who spoiled Sidney Crosby's comeback from a broken jaw by rallying from an early two-goal deficit...
It wasnât the way they wanted game two to start. Not after game one. But the puck dropped and only 43 seconds later, it was behind Nabokov in his net. Malkin had scored the first goal with an Iginla assist. Less than three minutes later, Sidney Crosby, making his triumphant return to the Pittsburgh ice scored a power play goal while Andy MacDonald watched from the box.
Most of Pittsburgh will have its eyes on the Consol Energy Center tonight. That's fair, of course; the Penguins are an awesome team, and nights that Sidney Crosby takes the ice should be celebrated. That being said, I do want to point out that there's a really exciting series happening at PNC Park this weekend. Weird and frustrating trip to Miller Park aside, the Pirates...
