Sidney Crosby‘s game is clicking on all cylinders, and that’s bad news for the rest of the NHL. Crosby recorded the second playoff hat trick of his career as the Penguins built an early lead in Game 2 against the Senators then held off an Ottawa rally to win 4-3. Pittsburgh now holds a 2-0 advantage in the teams’ Eastern Conference semifinal series, with the Senators now needing a win at home in Game 3 to avoid falling into the treacherous 3-0 hole. Check out all three of Crosby’s tallies in the video below.

A 44-Story Goal Light...??? Yup... In Pittsburgh...

((HT: CBS Sports/Adam Gretz)) This is what happens when you have a city fully involved in their post-season... Pittsburgh has turned their 44-story Gulf Building into a gigantic goal light that goes off every time the Pens score... The building was very busy last night... Evidence below... Senators-Penguins Preview

Even as numbers on a roster, the Pittsburgh Penguins' power play appears intimidating. At times on the ice, it looks borderline unfair. Start with two NHL MVPs in Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Add a future Hall of Famer like Jarome Iginla and a Norris Trophy finalist in defenseman Kris Letang. Throw in a grinder to do the dirty work in Chris Kunitz and the Penguins have...

QUICK CAP: Pens win 4-3. Up 2-0 going back to Ottawa

The Penguins did everything they needed to do in this game. They didn't get great goaltending from Tomas Vokoun, but they got timely goaltending with Vokoun making two huge saves late in the second period. Crosby scored three goals, Brenden Morrow gets credit with the game winner. The Pens are now up 2-0 in the series as it shifts to Ottawa on Sunday night at 7:30. ...

Penguins, Bruins, Rangers thriving in playoff ratings

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins advanced to the NHL Stanley Cup Conference Semifinals, and on the way, both clubs did extremely well in the ratings in their local markets. In the Penguins-Islanders series, Root Sports averaged a record 21.3 rating for the six games, with a 23.3 rating in  Game 6 setting the high watermark for a first round playoff game on Root and clocking...

Travis Yost: Changes on the Horizon?

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- The reality of the pair of losses in Pittsburgh: unspectacular stretches of hockey against the Eastern Conference's best team are going to lead to unsavory outcomes. Game one? I thought Ottawa was more or less right there with Pittsburgh at even-strength. The Pittsburgh special teams were the story, and comfortably lifted Dan Bylsma...

Penguins Playoffs: Pretty Sure the Ottawa Media has Lost it’s Mind

As the 2012-13 NHL season drew to a close, many people watched the Eastern Conference standing closely, not only for the expected reasons, but to see if it were possible for the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins to meet in the postseason, and to cringe at the drama that would unfold if this were [...]

Travis Yost: One Goal the Difference

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- Sidney Crosby's hat-trick chased Craig Anderson in the middle of game two. And, staring down a multi-goal deficit, Ottawa's hopes looked slim for the second time in as many games down in CONSOL. Robin Lehner, upon insertion, immediately shut the door. The Swedish back-up stopped twenty of twenty-one shots, the only goal coming...

NHL Playoff Observations -- Friday (Thursday, too)

Just a few things that caught my eye: Four shots, three goals ... and his second career hat playoff hat trick. The third goal was Sidney Crosby's 100th playoff point, a feat accomplished in merely 75 games. Plus he's the fifth fastest to hit that 100-point mark. Who was faster? Just Wayne Gretzky (46 games), Mario Lemieux (50), Jari Kurri (67) and Mike Bossy (74)....

Marc-André Fleury: A quandary for Pittsburgh, a headache for Canada

From Roy MacGregor of the Toronto Globe and Mail: Three Dog Night had it all wrong. One is not the loneliest number. It’s 29. No. 29, also known as Marc-André Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins, is on the ice at Consol Energy Center. He is skating between Zambonis as they re-surface the ice: crouched over, head bowed, deep in thought that does not require a mind-reader...
