Found July 12, 2012 on Pro Sports Daily:
After quite a flurry that coincided with the opening of NHL free agency in early July, Dallas Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk admits that with the club signing Jaromir Jagr to a one-year contract on July 3 for $4.55 million, the Dallas brass can finally take a breather and get some much-needed time off. "No, I think I'm going to the lake next week and turning my phone off," Nieuwendyk said on a July 5 conference call about the Jagr signing. "I think we're pretty much done now." Dallas adding Jagr came only a short time after the Stars signed fellow veteran Ray Whitney to a two-year, $9 million deal on July 1, the same day the club also added ex-Vancouver Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome. And on July 2, the Stars acquired veteran center Derek Roy from the Buffalo Sabres for fan favorite Steve Ott and Adam Pardy. These moves all came after the Stars traded No. 1 center Mike Ribeiro to the Capitals on the opening night of the 2012 NHL Draft for young...

Nieuwendyk: No plans to move Morrow

With a push to return to the playoffs, Dallas Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk has made some drastic changes to the roster this offseason. But one change he doesn't plan to make is moving the captain, Brenden Morrow. We had a good talk the other day, and I told him I very much believe theres a place for him on this team, Nieuwendyk told Mike Heika of The Dallas Morning News. I told...

Report: Stars' Roy has shoulder surgery

Only nine days after being acquired by the Dallas Stars, center Derek Roy had shoulder surgery and will be out until November. According to Mike Heika of The Dallas Morning News, Roy, who was added in a trade that sent Steve Ott and Adam Pardy over to the Buffalo Sabres, had the procedure done Wednesday in Dallas. Heika reported Wednesday that Roy was cleared medically for the...

Derek Roy Injury and A Few Other New Tidbits

First off, the stunner of the day comes from Mike Heika. "Derek Roy had shoulder surgery today. Out until November. More to come." Even better is that it looks like that'll be late November till he's ready to play again. He'll probably still be able to condition and skate, but he loses valuable time in camp getting used to his linemates and learning the system...

Brenden Morrow Perhaps Not An Option After All

Yesterday we cited a rumor that Dallas Stars captain and left winger Brenden Morrow could be involved in trade discussions and thatthe Rangers might be one team to take a look. Morrow had previously played on Brad Richards' wing when Brad was a member of the Dallas organization. But if you believe Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk, then Brenden Morrow is not going to be moved anywhere...

Ty Anderson: Bruins sign veteran Exelby, re-up final two RFAs

Let me make this very clear: Veteran forward Ray Whitney is not walking through that door. One of the game's greats, Jaromir Jagr, is not walking through that door. Rick Nash is not walking through that door. But hey, Garnet Exelby is! What? That's not who you were expecting? Since the start of free agency, Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli has been open about...

Kevin Freiheit: The French Connection

I come home to find out that Derek Roy will miss some time in Dallas. Stars GM said Roy could have played through it, but ``we want the best Derek Roy we can get.'' Also, it's good to hear the French Connection getting a statue. If you didn't see it yesterday, here's a short clip of Patrick Kaleta participating in the Home Run Derby. And yes, he hit more...

GARTH: Caveat Emptor

Let the buyer beware. Derek Roy's dinged Buffalo Wing was a "suicidal hot" (inside Buffalo reference) topic of conversation on Thursday night. During the second period intermission of the Blue vs. Gold prospects scrimmage, Sabres GM Darcy Regier, fielded question about a a variety of topics. The one topic that was immediately broached by the media was the Derek Roy...
