The Binghamton Senators made a few announcements this week and here is a quick run down of them.
The Binghamton Senators will begin their training camp this year in Newfoundland. The B-Sens will join the Hamilton Bulldogs for a five-day training camp that will include a three-game series to be played between the two teams. The three games will be played in Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor and in St. John’s. Road trip anyone?
The B-Sens also announced a few signings. They have signed goalie Barry Brust to a one-year AHL contact. Brust has played 139 career AHL games with a record of 67-52-7 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. Brust will be the third-string goalie in Bingo behind Brodeur and Lehner. Brust is an insurance policy as the organization has a few goalies (Leclaire and Brodeur) who seem to get injured every year, so Brust should expect to get some playing time.
The B-Sens also re-signed resident tough guy Tim Spencer. The 6′4″ 238 lbs left winger led the B-Sens with 141 penalty minutes last season. Hopefully he will be able to handle former B-Sens fan favourite tough guy Jeremy Yablonski who signed on with the Islanders organization on a two-way contract.
And lastly, the Senators ECHL affiliate, the Elmira Jackals, have entered into an agreement with the Anaheim Ducks and their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch to become their ECHL affiliate. The Jackals are still trying to finalize an agreement with the Senators and Binghamton to stay on as their ECHL affiliate also. This would give Elmira a deeper pool of prospects to pull from and could turn the Jackals into a powerhouse in the ECHL. This could be a positive for the Senators organization as Elmira will be a better team and will help develop their prospects in a winning environment.
