I'm always going to feel confident about the Rangers winning no matter what, but after seeing the Capitals more concerned about a phantom slew foot than getting ready for a Game 7, I'm feeling better than ever. Washington's Mike Green took an embarrassingly indiscipline penalty in the third period when he cross checked Derek Dorsett in the mouth after he thought the Rangers agitator kicked out his skates from behind. Unfortunately for Green and the Capitals the referee saw what everyone else did, that Dorsett lost his balance and both his legs kicked up as the players crashed into the boards... Apparently the Capital players didn't see the above video, especially at the 1:22 mark showing there was absolutely no attempt at a slew foot, before making these statements... Braden Holtby (via Washington Post)... “The one that we all had a problem with, obviously, was the one on Greenie. That’s a play that should be reviewed. It’s only because Greenie...

Tom Wilson loses skate blade, crawls to bench

If it weren’t for those ill-fated contests at intermission that invite fans down onto the ice for this or that, we’d likely forget just how slippery an everyday rink is. Capitals right wing Tom Wilson found out the hard way Sunday when he was suddenly stuck with just one blade to try to work himself around the ice. Wilson had just laid a hit when the blade of his left skate popped...

Ovechkin joining Russia for world championships

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will join Russia's team at the ice hockey world championships in Finland. It will be Ovechkin's ninth appearance in the tournament. He helped Russia win the gold medal last year and in 2008. He has 26 goals and 18 assists in 55 games. The news that he'll play for Russia comes Tuesday, a day after Ovechkin's Capitals were...

Alex Ovechkin’s NHL Conspiracy Theory

Oh boy. On Monday Night Alex Ovechkin and his Washington Capitals were eliminated from the NHL Playoffs by the New York Rangers. On Tuesday morning, Pat Leonard of The New York Daily News reported that Ovi suggested to a Russian reporter that the NHL wanted the Rangers to win game 6 and force a game 7. “Not saying there was a phone call, but they wanted Game 7,” Ovechkin reportedly...

Capitals Face Another Game 7

from Katie Carrera of the Washington Post, The Capitals are quite familiar with the agony-inducing, pressure-packed contests that are a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Winner-take-all nailbiters where every shift and every mistake are magnified because at the end, one team’s season will come to a screeching halt. Five of six contests in this series have been decided...

Ovechkin: “Refs Out To Get Us”

Alex Ovechkin was critical of the officiating in the Capitals Game 7 loss to the Rangers (courtesy of Russianmachineneverbreaks.com) Cue Gun’s & Roses “They’re Out To Get Me”; at least that’s what Washington Capitals star winger Alex Ovechkin thinks after the team blew a 2-0 series lead only to lose in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. According to ESPN...

Time For The Stars To Shine

These two men are the key to tonight’s game. I took this photo in Moscow almost exactly six years ago; Russia had just defeated Sweden for the Bronze at the IIHF World Championships. More excitingly for Capitals fans, news had just broken that Backstrom would be joining the Capitals in the upcoming season, so we asked the pair to pose as “new” teammates for the first time...

Another Look At A Bad Trade

One of the more surprising moves at the trade deadline this year was the Washington Capitals trading 2012 first round pick Filip Forsberg to the Nashville Predators for Martin Erat and minor leaguer Michael Latta.  I picked this as a good longterm move for Nashville and a bad longterm move for Washington.  There are few players with Forsberg`s potential and you don`t give them...

Capitals' Tom Wilson loses skate blade after big hit, stumbles to bench

Skating on ice is tough enough, but doing it when you are missing a blade on one foot during an NHL playoff game — as we found out yesterday — is next to impossible. That's what happened to Washington Capitals rookie Tom Wilson when he was crashed into the boards and "lost his steel" during Game 6 against the New York Rangers Sunday. The 19-year-old rookie...

Rapid Rewind: Game Over. Capitals 0, Rangers 5

The Washington Capitals fell in another game seven on home ice Monday evening, losing to the New York Rangers in the final game of their 2013 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series by a final score of 5-0.  Henrik Lundqvist was stellar once again in net for New York, posting his second consective shutout, behind a Ranger team that pushed all of the right buttons after falling behind...

Tom Wilson crawls to bench after losing skate blade on hit

Late in the first period of only his second career playoff game, Washington Capitals rookie Tom Wilson got crushed and lost his skate blade.  Wilson tried to get up and balance on one skate, while pushing with his bladeless skate but it was to no avail.  Wilson ended up crawling back to the Capitals bench to get a line change and to get a new set of steel placed in his skate. Some NHL views current and upcoming

- The Caps were thinking what exactly trading for Erat?  Brooks Laich's "tenure and term" is insanity too.  - I don't believe Philly and Vancouver have any choice but to amnesty Bryzgalov and Luongo.  Maybe they'll trade them and their new teams will amnesty them after next year.  Unless there's some rule against that. - I thought I was listening...

Happy Mother’s Day

Even though I lost my mom a few years ago, I still think of her especially when it comes to hockey. One memory will always stand out. During the Wings cup run in 1998, I was luck enough to win 2 tickets to watch game 3 of the SCF against the Washington Capitals, tickets courtesy of a local radio station. It was a fly in a few hours before the game, go to the game and fly out...
