The Rangers got rivalry week started off right with a 4-1 defeat of the New Jersey Devils tonight at the Prudential Center. For all the praise being heaped on fill ins like Bickel, Erixon, and Stralman. For all the kudos being thrown at the Rangers and what a great job they do backchecking, blocking shots, getting in passing lanes, etc. The cold hard truth is this. This team will only go as far as Henrik Lundqvist will take them. Tonight, he took them to a 4-1 win that is a very, very deceiving score...

First, here are the unofficial contest results. Three entries had the Rangers winning 4-1 and Gaborik scoring the GWG—jpg30, Alexei and Omar A. They were all over on the Rangers shots, which was 21. So we went to the final tiebreaker, Devils shots. The Devils had 31 shots. Alexei guessed 24, jpg guessed 30 and Omar A guessed 31.

Thoughts:
1) Another staged fight to start the game. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Maybe it’s hypocritical, but to me they don’t seem as senseless when it’s archrivals playing. I did think Rupp had some good, solid hits, though he wasn’t credited with any, officially.
2) I liked the Brandon Dubinsky-Kelly Clarkson bout better because it was an actual hockey fight...
