While there's next to zero chance he plays in tonight's Game 4, there was some good news on the Marc Staal injury front as he reported some progress with his blurred vision and altered depth perception after practice today (via Bergen Record)... “That week after the game I didn’t play [Game 4 against the Capitals], I had some ups and downs and I took a few days off to let things settle down. The last two days have been better so we’ll go from there. It’s worse to sit and watch than it is to deal with the eye." ...really excited to hear that there's some improvement. I'm still very concerned that he'll never regain 100% of his vision. But if he feels comfortable playing again by next fall I'm confident he can still be a very productive NHL player for the Rangers. ...and if not, I'm sure the Carolina Hurricanes will want to trade for him anyway, just to say they have all the Staal brothers on their team. Torts (rightfully) defends Richards in post game presser

After the Rangers overtime win last night, coach John Tortorella held his usual post-game press conference. This one was a lot different than his previous press conferences, as the coach was very candid and very passionate about his defense of Brad Richards. You can watch the video above for the full interview, but the Richards excerpt is below: “I think it’s important to spend...

You Can Kiss Tortorella's Ass

After last night's 4-3 overtime win, John Tortorella defended Brad Richards and his decision to bench the Rangers alternate captain... ...Tortorella is 100% correct with his assessment that Richards does himself and the Rangers team no good playing on the fourth line. ECSF Game 4 preview: One game at a time

COREY SIPKIN/NEW YORK DAILY NEWS The Rangers are facing a steep climb to get back into this series, but it all starts with one game. As Kevin said yesterday, one shift at a time. If you win each shift, you’ll win the game, and that should be the priority for the Rangers. The biggest news is that Brad Richards is a healthy scratch and Anton Stralman is out tonight with an undisclosed...

Richards, Asham Out; Haley, Newbury, Hamrlik In

While it's really not all that surprising considering his performance and lack of ice time in the playoffs, I'm still in shock to read that Brad Richards will be a healthy scratch in Game 4 tonight. According to Katie Strang at, John Tortorella called Richards at home this morning to break the news to him. Richards admitted he was surprised and disappointed...

The media and Pierre McGuire still ignoring Tortorella’s adjustments

During Tuesday night’s game, I noticed the Bruins were finding an easy way to exploit the Rangers aggressive 2-1-2 forecheck early in the first period. The Rangers just seemed a step behind making contact with the puck carrier. While I always prefer a 2-1-2 forecheck and I am glad it is the system Torts has installed, I couldn’t help but think an adjustment needed to be made...

Rangers Score Saddest Goal Ever

The Rangers narrowly escaped being swept on Thursday night as they beat the Bruins 4-3 in overtime.  Upon further review, they REALLY narrowly escaped, especially after seeing one of their goals in slow motion.  Check out the Rangers first goal which featured Carl Hagelin falling down and shooting as he fell but barely getting a stick on it.  Instead of being an easy save, Bruins’...

NHL playoffs: Best of Thursday

All the hoopla before Game 4 between the Rangers and Bruins at Madison Square Garden on Thursday revolved around New York coach John Tortorella's decision to make Brad Richards a healthy scratch. Richards is making $12M this year, but only has one goal in the playoffs. He's also a Conn Smythe Trophy winner, AND won the Cup with Torts as his coach when the two were with the...
