In an interview with Viv Bernstein at the New York Times, Carolina's Eric Staal gives us this update on brother Marc's eye injury... “He’s doing O.K. It’s just about the swelling and taking time for everything to kind of settle down. Obviously, everybody saw the shot, how hard it was, but he’s continuing to meet with the doctors daily, and they’re giving him positive vibes and signs, so that’s a good thing. But he’s still a ways out with the healing process and everything that goes with it.” ...wow, 12 days since Staal took a puck to the eye and the swelling has yet to go down? That can't be good. Would love to know what Eric's interpretation of "a ways out" is. ...absolutely baffling that the Rangers are releasing no information on Staal. I know Torts likes to protect his players, but it isn't like no one knows he was struck in the eye. Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mail me at nyrfan94@yahoo.com.

Who sits after Pitkanen returns?

The Hurricanes have a couple of decisions to make regarding their current defense corps and no, I am not talking about them making a trade. This issue is a little more immediate, as Joni Pitkanen will be returning to the lineup soon and the Hurricanes are going to have to figure out who will sit to make room for him in the lineup. The team started the year with seven defensemen on...

Hurricanes CHL Prospect Update: NHLE Values

The Canadian Hockey League's regular season ended this weekend and some good news for Hurricanes fans is that many of their prospect's respective teams made the post-season and will have a chance to put themselves on the map this spring. Some of them are already well-known in the hockey community, but the playoffs are always a great opportunity for a player to create a lot...

Hurricanes at Lightning game preview

Game time: 7 p.m. TV: Sun Sports The Carolina Hurricanes weren't pleased with their latest game. Visiting the Tampa Bay Lightning could help them feel better. The Hurricanes will try to earn a third straight road win over their Southeast Division rivals and add to the Lightning's longest home losing streak in four seasons Saturday night. Carolina (15-10-1) has won six...

Game 28 Preview: Carolina at Rangers

Staals are brothers. The Rangers really need to end their three game slide, and tonight is a great opportunity to do just that. The Hurricanes are playing a lot better of late, even though they have lost two in a row (won six of seven prior), but the Rangers have a dominant record against the Southeast Division over the past few seasons. Of course, if the Blueshirts continue playing...

Lightning get the puck in net in win over Carolina

The Tampa Bay Lightning were able to get some goals on the board in a crucial division win Saturday night over the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1.  The Bolts were ignited by the play of their rookies. Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat set the offensive examples for the game with the goals.  “I thought Johnson, Palat and Tyrell gave us momentum from their shift on the ice,” coach Guy...

Game 27 Inside the Numbers: Hurricanes at Lightning

A 4-1 loss where the losing team manages to create only 11 total scoring chances is pretty bad and that's what happened to the Hurricanes last night against Tampa Bay. It's easy to write off this game as a poor effort by the entire team, but I think that's just a lazy way of analyzing the game. There were several players on the Hurricanes who worked hard and had good...

Tampa Bay overpowers Carolina in 4-1 win

In any given season, there are always teams who have each other's number. Last year, the Hurricanes had the Bruins number, sweeping them in a four game series and this year, it seems the Lightning have played their best games of the season against the Hurricanes. After their 4-1 win tonight, the Lightning have won all three of their matchups against Carolina this year and have...
