Found March 03, 2012 on Stars of Big D:
Final Dallas 3 - Edmonton 1 It wasn't pretty, but the Stars did what they had to do last night. They beat an inferior Edmonton Oilers squad despite not playing their most efficient game. Dallas got depth line scoring in this game through hard work, a little luck and sheer force of will. This was a pretty sleepy game all-around. Dallas never recorded more than six shots in any period and neither team reached double digit shots in any of the periods. The two teams entered the first intermission tied at 0-0 before Dallas finally cracked open the scoreboard with a very rare Radek Dvorak goal. Dvorak worked hard around the net and found himself on top of a juicy rebound which he promptly put in. The Stars followed that up with an even rarer Tomas Vincour goal which I'm still not quite sure how it happened. Dallas had put the puck behind the net and Nikolai Khabibulin and a couple of Oilers defenders went to get the puck. Ryan Garbutt charged his way through and sort of ran in...

Stars' point streak shows strong start no fluke

The Dallas Stars march on. On Sunday, the Stars beat the Flames 3-2 in a shootout, giving them back-to-back wins to start their three-game swing through Western Canada. Glen Gulutzan's club has now won four straight road games and continues to rack up points using a pretty simple formula. For one, the Stars continue to be carried by their top two lines, but they are also getting...

Stars LW Morrow resumes skating

I guess that's a good sign," Morrow said Thursday.Morrow has missed 14 games and hasn't played since Feb. 2 at San Jose. The 33-year-old said he's "nowhere near game shape" and...

Report: Oilers interested in Cory Schneider

The latest Edmonton Oilers rumor has me very excited. Reports have surfaced suggesting the Oilers are among the teams interested in obtaining Cory Schneider's services in the off-season. Schneider is the best young goalie in the game today. I believe if Cory Schneider became an Edmonton Oiler such a transaction would dramatically accelerate the rebuilding process of the franchise...

Eriksson helps Stars edge Flames in shootout

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- Loui Eriksson had a short-handed goal and added an assist in regulation, then scored in a shootout in the Dallas Stars' 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Sunday night. Jamie Benn scored on Dallas' first attempt in the shootout, and Eriksson connected on the second. Michael Ryder added a power-play goal, and Kari Lehtonen made 36 saves and assisted...

Taylor Chorney: “Things are Trending Up”

Defenceman Taylor Chorney was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the second round of the 2005 entry draft and it seems that 7 years later, his time with the organization may be at an end. Chorney has spent the majority of his season with the Oklahoma City Barons and this summer while the Oilers iced a young and often times injured blue line.  This summer, Chorney needs a new contract...

Lehtonen stops 19 shots as Stars stifle Oilers

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- Kari Lehtonen made 19 saves for his 25th win of the season as the Dallas Stars beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 on Friday night. Michael Ryder, Radek Dvorak and Tomas Vincour scored for the Stars, who have won five of their last six -- with the lone loss coming in a shootout against Pittsburgh. Sam Gagner scored the only goal for the Oilers, who have lost...

Ladislav Smid’s Breakout Season

Edmonton Oilers’ defenceman Ladislav Smid has never been thought of as an offensive defenceman, but his 3 goals this season are another reason for people to take note. There is of course also Smid’s (at times) league leading number of blocked shots and team leading number of hits to discuss, but goals from a stay at home defenceman are what doesn’t quite fit the trend. Acquired...

Continue On With The Trade Talk

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, • The Bruins and Blackhawks made a pitch to Dallas for D Sheldon Souray, while Colorado and Vancouver made offers for Stars W Steve Ott. The deals didn’t go down because GM Joe Nieuwendyk wanted players who could step into the lineup right away with Dallas still battling for a playoff spot. • The Flyers were close on a deal that would...

Oilers G Khabibulin back in net Friday

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin will be back in net for Friday's game against the Dallas Stars. Khabibulin has been sidelined since suffering a groin injury in a game against Vancouver on Feb. 19. The 39-year-old Russian has posted a 12-16-5 record with two shutouts and 2.60 goals-against average this season.

Hitchcock Discusses His Coaching Style

from Cam Cole of the Vancouver Sun, It’s the ’99 Dallas Stars all over again, only they’ve moved to Missouri. Hitch in St. Louis, Darryl Sutter in L.A., throw in Phoenix’s Dave Tippett for good measure ... they’re dragging hockey back to the dead-puck era. Suffocating defence, unadventurous offence, happy to win 1-0. Only one problem, Hitchcock said Thursday. It’s just...

Stars-Flames Preview

Before the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames met last month, Calgary held a three-point edge over the Stars in the standings. The Flames are in a much less enviable position now. Dallas seeks its sixth victory in seven games Sunday when it visits the fading Flames, who have lost five of six. The Stars had lost four straight to Calgary and three in a row overall to slip to 11th place...
