Dallas' power-play unit is starting to find its rhythm, and not surprisingly, the Stars are quickly accumulating goals and points. The Phoenix Coyotes are struggling to keep opponents from scoring, regardless of how many skaters are on the ice. The Stars try to build on another strong performance and win their third in a row Saturday night in Phoenix. With a 5-2 victory over Los Angeles on Thursday, Dallas (12-9-2) reached the four-goal mark for the fourth time in five games. It had scored four - excluding shootout goals - in four if its first 18. Jaromir Jagr scored twice for his first multigoal game since getting two goals and two assists in a 4-3 win over Phoenix in the season opener. Cody Eakin, Brenden Morrow and Antoine Roussel added one goal apiece Thursday. Jagr and Eakin both scored on the power play, a unit which is really starting to come together for the Stars. They're 7 for 22 (31.8 percent) since Feb. 23, going 4-1-1, after converting 9 of 60 chances (15.0...

Dallas Stars working to re-sign Derek Roy

If the Dallas Stars get their way, Derek Roy‘s name won’t feature in trade rumors for much longer. According to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, the club is currently working to negotiate a contract extension with Roy ahead of the April 3rd trade deadline. Fortunately for the Dallas club, the 29-year-old center seems to want the same thing.“They’ve been talking, so...

Brenden Morrow On The Trade Talk

from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, I talked to Brenden Morrow about the April 3 trade deadline, and he had a refreshing point of view. Morrow knows that there’s a very good chance he could be traded, as he can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer and the Stars appear to have no interest in signing him. At age 34, he believes he still has plenty to...

Coyotes midseason report card

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Coyotes reached the midpoint of the 2013 season in a place they didnt expect to be: outside looking in on the playoff race, with the four teams immediately ahead of them all having a game or two in hand. The culprits in this disappointing 11-10-3 start are easy to spot. Goalie Mike Smith hasnt shown more than glimpses of his 2011-12 incarnation, the teams...

With their road record currently sitting at 6-5-1, the Dallas Stars (11-9-2, 24 points) have clearly done a decent job of winning games away from American Airlines Center so far this season. Mike Smith's slump continues vs. Blues

GLENDALE, Ariz. Mike Smith didn't address reporters after Thursday's 6-3 loss to St. Louis at Jobing.com Arena, so it's hard to gauge whether he was more upset with his own play or the play of the team in front of him. Either one was fair game after the Coyotes reached the midpoint of the season with one of their poorest performances all year. "That wasn'...
