The Dallas Stars have placed left wing Ray Whitney on the injured list because of a lower-body injury.
Whitney, who has been battling foot problems, played Friday against Phoenix at home, but went on the injured list before the teams met again Saturday night in the desert.
The 40-year-old forward led the Stars with two goals and four assists through the first eight games after...

GLENDALE, Ariz. The news that Greg Jamison would not make his deadline to purchase the Coyotes had barely settled over the Valley when another reminder of this lengthy ownership saga's impact slipped quietly into the press elevator on Saturday at Jobing.com Arena.
Ray Whitney's return to the Valley wasn't as poetic as it was supposed to be. Whitney, now with the Stars...
Jamie Benn scored his first two goals of the season, and the Dallas Stars beat Colorado 3-2 on Monday, spoiling the night for Milan Hejduk as the Avalanche forward was honored for playing in his 1,000th NHL game.
Brenden Morrow also scored, and Kari Lehtonen made 29 saves for Dallas.
Hejduk had a goal, as he did in his first career game, and P.A. Parenteau added another in the...

No one would call it a masterpiece, but the Dallas Stars rode a breakout game from Jamie Benn and a strong goaltending performance from Kari Lehtonen to a 3-2 win over the Avalanche last night in Denver. Dallas built and relinquished a 2-0 lead before Benn's second goal of the game restored the lead for good.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan engineered wholesale lineup changes...
More than any other shortcoming last season, the Dallas Stars' horrid performance in the follow-up games of back-to-backs was what eventually cost them a playoff spot. The Stars went 1-11-2 in these games. Excluding shootout goals, the Stars were outscored by a margin of 53-21.
For Dallas to have any hope of being a surprise playoff team in the lockout-shortened 2013 season...
DENVER -- Jamie Benn had two goals and an assist, Brenden Morrow also scored, and the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 Monday night. Kari Lehtonen made 29 saves for the Stars (4-5-1), who won for just the second time in their past seven games. The majority of game was played with one referee after official Chris Rooney was hurt 3:12 into the first period. A shot by...
Dallas Stars 0 - Phoenix Coyotes 2
The Stars had another ugly game on the second night of a back-to-back and found themselves on the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline last night. The game overall was just flat out bad and the Stars continue to be bamboozled by the back-to-backs.
There were very few positives to take away from this game. The penalty...
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Mike Smith made a couple of tough saves in the opening minutes and later skated out to the boards to clear a puck and set up a scoring chance at the other end.
In other words, he looked a lot like the goalie who led the Phoenix Coyotes to the Western Conference finals a year ago.
So did the team in front of him.
Playing with confidence and poise for the...
