Found March 12, 2012 on On the Duck Pond:
The Ducks were spectacular from the beginning of January until the end of February.  Once the trade deadline passed, they are having difficulties adding to the win column.  As a result, they keep sleeping in the standings and the clock (perhaps a bomb?) just keeps ticking louder and louder to the inevitable. The most recent loss, a 2-0 shutout by the Dallas Stars, really hurt.  Literally.  Corey Perry was boarded by Stephane Robidas in the middle of the second period.  Robidas received a minor penalty, but Perry was very shaken up and in pain, having hit his shoulder hard.  Perry stayed on the bench for a while, then went to the locker room.  He came back on in the third period, but was only able to take a couple shifts and then left for good. Reports after the game were that xrays on the shoulder came back negative and he was listed as day to day."If the [Perry] penalty wasn’t a five-minute penalty, I don’t know what is," said coach Bruce Boudreau. "He’s in the mos...

Avs Down Ducks in OT; Selanne Moves Up

Playing without an injured Corey Perry (right shoulder) and Luca Sbisa (back spasms), the Ducks still held their own against a feisty Colorado Avalanche team.  Their efforts earned them a point, but Colorado took the extra point by defeating the Ducks 3-2 in overtime. The Ducks got behind the eight ball once again by having the opposing team score first.  Jamie McGinn sniped his...

Selanne Passes Kurri In Total Points

Teemu Selanne recorded his 1,399th point tonight @ Colorado, becoming the NHL’s top all-time top scorer from Finland (Jari Kurri, 1,398). Selanne now ranks 19th in career scoring in NHL history, third among all European-born players. The only other European-born players with more points are Jaromir Jagr (born in Kladno, Czech Republic, 1,645 points) and Stan Mikita (born in Sokolce...

Damn, An Impulse Buy: A Hockey Hall of Fame Expo 1/1

Scott Niedermayer helped the Ducks win their first and thus far only Stanley Cup, and I now have just my second hit of the future Hall of Famer.A sweet two-color jersey swatch from ITG Superlative, and it's the Silver Version numbered out of 30. However, it's rarer than that, as the top left corner is stamped with "2010 Fall Expo 1/1". The seller noted that this...

Celebrating Saku Koivu

“During my cancer treatments, I never thought about what would happen with hockey. It was more important just to survive and beat the disease. Since then, I’m allowing myself to enjoy life and hockey more, even if the game has lost a ton of its meaning and importance in my life.“ - Saku Koivu, March 12th 2012 This isn’t going to be a post about the...

Red Wings-Ducks game-day updates: Bertuzzi in, MacDonald starting

Putting mid-day chatter behind us, the Red Wings will tangle with the Anaheim Ducks tonight (10 PM EDT, FSD/FS West/97.1 FM), and while it should come as little surprise that the Red Wings’ website reports that the Wings engaged in an optional morning skate (so did the Ducks, who’s Curtis Zupke confirms will start Jonas Hiller, and Corey Perry and Luca Sbisa may or may...

Ducks-Avalanche Preview

The playoff-contending Colorado Avalanche won't get to enjoy the comforts of home ice too often for the rest of the month. Before beginning a road-heavy stretch, the Avalanche will try to pick up some needed points Monday night when they face the Anaheim Ducks, who are hoping to have Corey Perry available to help end their recent scoring woes. Colorado (36-30-4) has aided its...
