April 3 is the NHL Trade Deadline in this oddly constructed 2013 NHL Season. That gives us 15 days to look at options for the Stars to consider as they head down the road of trying to get from where they are to where they wish to go. And at times, they seem a long ways from where they hope to go. And given that in the last 5 games, they have pulled 3 points out of 10, it might be time for the suits in the front office to take a hard look at the alternative plan. Nobody likes to ever consider the alternative plan until reality hits them right in the face. When you start each season, you bravely announce that the playoffs are the goal (or the Stanley Cup for the extra-brave) and you march into the year filling your fans' heads with optimism and hope. Then, when things start to go badly, a team must make that tough decision. The players and coach don't need to be involved in this tough decision, because you want them playing as hard and trying to win their next game no mat...

Ronald McDonald giving ‘Miracle’ speech to CHL team is nightmare fuel (video)

The scene in Miracle where Kurt Russell (as Herb Brooks) delivers a stirring pregame speech to his players is one of the most riveting, lump-in-your-throat moments in any sports film ever. So, it’s not surprising in the least that folks have been re-creating it for their own purposes ever since the movie came out in 2004. One such video documenting a re-creation of the scene that...

Stars visit struggling Avalanche on Wednesday

The Dallas Stars ended an ugly losing streak - and a severe offensive slump - their last time out, earning a crucial win in their battle to make the playoffs. They may have a good chance to make it two in a row Wednesday night when they visit the sliding and defensively challenged Colorado Avalanche, losers of three straight at home. Dallas (13-12-3) defeated Calgary 4-3 on Monday...

Curtis Glencross sends Loui Eriksson over boards with hit

Dallas Stars forward Loui Eriksson did a good job of taking a hit to make a play.  Calgary Flames forward Curtis Glencross hit him nearly into the bench area as he took the puck into the zone.  If Flames defenseman Jay Bouwmeester hadn’t been there to keep Eriksson out of the bench, he would have gone head-over-heels into it.  The play Eriksson made getting the puck to Jamie...

Joey MacDonald’s slick glove save on Brendan Morrow

Dallas Stars forward Brendan Morrow had a wide open net when he got the pass from Erik Cole out front.  Calgary Flames goalie Joey MacDonald did the excellent job of going post-to-post and getting his glove out to make the save.  Lucky for Morrow the Stars went on to win 4-3 and so the sheer robbery by MacDonald didn’t come into play.
