On Monday, head coach John Tortorella said that the plan was to keep Brandon Dubinsky on the top line with Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik since two games were not enough for him to evaluate that threesome together. Apparently he's changed his mind, as Derek Stepan skated on line one with Richie and Gabby during practice today according to the Daily News, and it looks like that may be the trio we see take the ice Saturday against the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.
As for the rest of the lines, they looked like this:
Stepan - Richards - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Anisimov - Callahan
Fedotenko - Boyle - Prust
Rupp - Christensen - Zuccarello
The first line like this lacks grit, but the skill and potential are certainly there. I think Stepan is someone who will definitely benefit from playing with two of the best players in the NHL, and will hopefully show us a little more than he has up until this point.
This also re-unites the Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan line, which is something I felt needed to happen. Dubinsky belongs on that line, not with Richards and Gaborik.
I'm still not a fan of that fourth line, though, because it has disaster written all over it. If it were my decision, Boyle and Prust would be swapped with Christensen and Zuccarello. But keep in mind, Wojtek Wolski is expected to be in the lineup on Saturday as well, so Christensen likely will not.
