The New York Rangers inked Anton Stralman to a one-year/ $900,000 contract early last week, but the 25-year-old defenseman has yet to play in a game for the Blueshirts since the deal was finalized. According to Andrew Gross, Stralman did not practice this afternoon and he will not be accompanying the team on their trip to Ottawa where they will take on the Senators tomorrow night.

The Rangers announced that Stralman did not skate today because he was going through the required medical testing before being able to practice/play. However, being that the signing was originally leaked last Monday, it seems odd that he is only going through his medical tests over a week later. And what makes it more weird is that the Rangers did not officially confirm the signing until several days after it was reported by TSN.

It could be nothing, I am just thinking out loud here, but it does seem fishy that everything has sort of been put on hold with this Stralman thing. Even the signing itself happened later than expected because the Rangers had interest in Anton about three or four weeks ago.

A possibility could be that the Rangers have plans to assign Stralman to the Connecticut Whale (AHL), and that is something that he must agree to in order for it to happen. But again, this is all speculation on my part.
