In their most recent successful contest versus the Devils the other night, the evening concluded with a complete team effort in all facets of the game. It was the type of game that a player doesn’t mind watching again in the film room, because he knows he left it all on the ice. The Flyers gave the Devils a taste of their own medicine, holding them to 17 shots all game and a mere THREE shots in the third period while playing arguably their best game all season. The situation dictated a need for success, and the Flyers came through in spades. It was the perfect remedy to overcome a disheartening 4-1 defeat at the hands of the same Devils squad just a few nights prior. It was also the type of game that singlehandedly rejuvenates a home crowd that was in dire need of a lift. The result was a raucous atmosphere with it’s aggression focused on the enemy, a rare treat this season in Philadelphia. Most importantly, it was a big game for the Flyers because they had said it would be a big...

Flyers' Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov Looks Like 'Mr. Universe' in Net, Should Pose Major Test for Bruins (Video)

Philadelphia Flyers' goalie Ilya Bryzgalov started off this season, looking like one of the worst net minders in the entire NHL. But the tides have turned for the Russian goalkeeper as of late, as Bryzgalov is one of the hottest goalies in the league. After giving up 26 goals in just his first eight games of the season, worry began to spread throughout Philadelphia and the general...

Bryzgalov's Shutout Streak Humaaangous Beeg At Three Games

Well, that headline kinda wrote itself, didn't it? More than enough has been said about Ilya Bryzgalov's struggles in his first season in Philadelphia, which seemed to curiously coincide with his Stephen Hawking-like insight into how big the universe is in comparison to everyone's problems on HBO's Road to the Winter Classic. Bryzgalov, who signed a nine-year,...

Bruins sign goalie Adam Morrison

The Boston Bruins have signed goaltender Adam Morrison of the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League to a three-year entry level contract. Morrison was an unrestricted free agent after the Philadelphia Flyers did not sign him within two years of selecting him in the third round (81st overall) of the 2009 draft. ''I know I still have work to do now that they have...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 3/16/12

The record-setting performance of Ilya Bryzgalov and the jump shown by the Flyers' top line were the highlights of last night's otherwise nondescript 3-2 road win in Long Island. Philly did not play as well on a sustained basis as it did in Tuesday's 3-0 home win over the Devils, but the team did enough to skate away with two points in the first segment of their 3-game...

Late Game Comeback Not Enough, Lose 3-2 to Flyers

Coming off two straight painful losses with blown leads late in the third, the Islanders playoff hopes looked bleak, but that doesn’t mean they were gonna stop trying to win games. Last night the Islanders came out head to head with the Flyers, but luck was on the Flyers’ side last night, as Rinaldo skated into the corner, put it on net and just happened to find a very small...

Flyers 3, Islanders 2

Todd Cordell: Easy Bryzy: Bryzgalov and the Flyers shutout the Devils 3-0

Here are some notes on last night's game, the Devils scoring depth and more. - Last night's Devils / Flyers game was a perfect example of one team just wanting it more. Unfortunately for New Jersey, it was their opponents that wanted...

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 3/15/12 @ Islanders

Flyers-Islanders Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers have been hot of late, largely due to the exceptional play of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. His history against the New York Islanders hasn't been as good, however. Bryzgalov will likely be in net as he seeks a franchise-record fourth consecutive shutout when Philadelphia looks for its sixth straight victory at Nassau Coliseum on Thursday night. The Flyers...

Flyers vs Islanders Pre-Game Report

The Islanders are back in action tonight when they’ll host the Philadelphia Flyers at the Coliseum. New York has won two of the four matchups these teams have had against each other. The Flyers downed the Isles 6-3 two weeks ago at the Wells Fargo Center. The Islanders took an early 1-0 lead, but the Flyers managed to take the lead in the first and added four more goals after...

71. Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins. No Luck Of O'Lucic Here.

Start drinking, you'll need it. Put on your green ******* O'Lucic t-shirt like a super douchebag, pin on your "Kiss Me I'm Irish" pin although your last name is something like Pallazola or Rask, wear some stupid oversized green hat and throw up all over yourself when the Bruins gets properly ****** by Philly. Happy Saint Patrick's Day.

Flyers-Bruins Preview

Goaltending problems are a big reason the Boston Bruins are mired in their worst funk of the season. The Philadelphia Flyers are having no such issues. Ilya Bryzgalov's shutout streak may be over but his run of hot play certainly isn't, so it might be hard for the rolling Flyers not to put him back in net Saturday for a visit to Boston. Bryzgalov nearly had a fourth straight...
