from Rich Hammond of LA Kings Insider, Darryl Sutter might say simple things, but be assured that he’s not a simple man. Every coach has his own motivational tools, and every coach knows that what he says publicly has a good chance of making its way to his players’ eyes and ears. To that end, Sutter gave some interesting comments today, after initially being asked about Jonathan Quick’s uncharacteristic interference penalty in Thursday’s game against San Jose. SUTTER: “He didn’t play very well, so he was probably a little frustrated with his own performance.” It didn’t quite end there, though. In the recent past — such as here — Sutter has drawn comparisons with Quick and Miikka Kiprusoff, of whom Sutter speaks with great professional affection. This isn’t to say that Sutter is being dishonest in terms of his feelings about Quick, but is he saying things to try to fire up Quick a bit? Sutter continued, when asked about bad games being few and far between for Quick this season… SUTTE

Vezina comparison: Quick vs. Lundqvist

The race for the Vezina trophy may come down to three finalists, but this year it’s a two horse race between Henrik Lundqvist and Jonathan Quick. To be fair, both are very deserving of the award. They have had tremendous years, and are clearly the two best goalies this year. While we have been spoiled by having the best goalie in the world in net, the Kings would not be anywhere...

Quick has chance to raise his status to elite

Is this the season in which the Kings' Jonathan Quick can break through and become an elite goalie? In the eyes of his coach, Darryl Sutter, that status is only reached in the playoffs, and in his two playoff series with the Kings, Quick has a 4-8 record in first-round losses to Vancouver and San Jose. Sutter -- who in previous stops coached top goalies such as Chicago'...

Ryane Clowe interferes with rush from bench

Last night, the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings faced off in a hugely important divisional match-up which unfortunately resulted in a Kings 6-5 shootout loss. At stake for the Kings was the potential to clinch the division and of course a little redemption from last year’s postseason. The game had a very gritty, playoff-type feel to it, resulting in a combined total of...

Magic number now zero: Kings reach playoffs

The Kings roller-coaster campaign was rewarded Thursday night when they reached the playoffs for the third consecutive season. And it came to fruition shortly before the puck was dropped at Staples Center for the Kings-Sharks game, the home finale for Los Angeles. The Kings' magic number, one, transformed into zero when the Predators defeated Dallas, 2-0, in Nashville, officially...

Do the Kings have enough offense to make a run?

On the strength of their Vezina-contending goaltender and an improving offense, the Los Angeles Kings hope to make some noise this spring. How exactly does one explain the 2011-12 Kings? They were involved in one of the two Flyers blockbuster trades last summer when they sent a package of players to Philadelphia for Mike Richards. Conventional thinking was that Richards, who was the...

Sharks' Ryane Clowe blatantly cheated, while sitting on the bench, and got away with it (Video)

San Jose Sharks left winger Ryane Clowe blatantly cheated, and got away with it, while sitting on the bench during the third period of Thursday night's NHL game against the Los Angeles Kings. Clowe reached over onto the ice with his stick and tapped the puck away while Kings center Jarret Stoll was racing down the ice with it on a 3-on-2 breakaway. It happened...

Could Quick Steal Vezina from Lundqvist?

Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy tries to make a compelling argument for Jonathan Quick to win the Vezina Trophy over Henrik Lundqvist..."But if you see the Vezina as an award not only for the goalie "adjudged to be the best at this position" but also the goalie who was vital to his team's success, then Jonathan Quick beats Henrik Lundqvist for the award. He has better...

Blues face San Jose Sharks in first round of Stanley Cup Playoffs

Candygram! The Blues've picked the safer bet between the Sharks and Los Angeles Kings, not that there was much picking involved. The Sharks're a tough team -- not like there're any creampuffs in the playoffs -- but their goaltending can be exploited. The Blues went 4-0 over them this year, as opposed to the 1-2-1 that they did over the Kings. No one in their right mind...

Link City: Clowe's play; Toews comeback uncertain

Kings-Sharks Preview

Ryan Clowe's moment of blatant cheating could be a reason the San Jose Sharks may have a chance at a fifth straight Pacific Division title. The Los Angeles Kings wouldn't mind getting a measure of revenge on Clowe while hoping they have a shot at just their second division crown in team history. The bitter rivals conclude the regular season in what could be a winner-takes...
