Fox Sports Florida:
Tampa Bay Lightning winger Steven Stamkos earned "First Star of the Week" honors, the National Hockey League announced Monday.
The forward led the league with three goals and four assists during the Bolts' three-game winning streak.
Stamkos now ranks second in the NHL in scoring with 17 points in 11 games. The 23-year-old recorded two goals and two assists in the team's 6-5 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday and picked up a primary assist in Tampa's 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. The next night, in a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers, he contributed a goal, an assist and netted the deciding goal in a sudden-death shootout.
The shootout goal in itself is a rarity for Stamkos -- he entered Sunday just 5-for-27 in his career.
"You want to be an impact player in this league," Stamkos said following Tampa Bay's win Sunday. "You want to help your team in those situations. It was nice to see it go in."
The goal proved crucial for the Lightning, who are tied with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the most points (16) in the Eastern Conference, thanks to the extra point garnered by Stamkos in the shootout.

The battle of the Sunshine State lived up to its name on Sunday night. With the Tampa Bay Lightning in town taking on the Panthers, Florida’s Scottie Upshall upped the ante on their in-state rivalry, messing with the wrong member of the opposing team. After offsides was called in the second period, Tampa Bay defenseman Radko Gudas wiped out near the Panthers’ bench. One Florida...
