Hockey is back!
Euphoria is the only emotion I’ve felt the past few days since the return of the NHL last Saturday.
As a Blackhawks fan, I have even more to be happy about. The ‘Hawks are off to a hot start, spoiling the Los Angeles Kings’ banner raising ceremony with a 5-2 victory and then enacting revenge on the Coyotes the next day with a 6-4 win.
The betrayal that is the lockout is never far from memory, but as it’s probably been said 100x by now … it sure is great to finally be watching hockey.
Here are some of my favorite moments from this past weekend.
1.) Winnipeg Fans Will Give You Chills
There’s nowhere else in the world where hockey is more loved than Canada. The excitement Canadian fans have for their teams is something all of us sports fans can appreciate.
We got to see this love during the Winnipeg Jets’ home opener against the Ottawa Senators when Dustin Byfuglien (former Blackhawk) went top shelf and scored the game’s first goal.
Listen to this crowd once that red light goes on. Goosebumps, man.
2.) Mike Smith Driven To Stick Abuse
The Blackahawks have done a great job frustrating their opponents by constantly attacking and playing the forecheck. It’s working out quite well.
The ‘Hawks have 11 goals in just two games, and that can make opposing goaltenders’ jobs a nightmare.
Just ask Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith.
3.) Bob Hartley is Very Sad
Allowing a goal isn’t exactly the most fun or happy moment, but Calgary Flames’ coach Bob Hartley is so sad after his team allows a goal that it is funny.
It’s ok, coach.
At least hockey fans at large don’t have to have that same look on our faces anymore. Hockey is back! I couldn’t be happier.
