After taking most of the day to digest the news of Marian Gaborik’s torn labrum, I’ve come to the glass half-full conclusion that there’s good and bad news to be drawn from this. The Good Timing – Obviously Gaborik was hampered by his injury during the playoffs, but if you’re choosing to look towards the future, it’s a good thing this happened now and not in October.  Gaborik now has four full months to recover before the start of the season and even if he were out for the full six months suggested by doctors, he’d still be able to play a considerable chunk of the season.  Better yet, the extent of the injury was discovered prior to any offseason player movement, giving the front office time to rethink and revise its plan of attack for the summer.  Offense was the team’s primary need before the injury and that hasn’t changed, but at least GM Glen Sather and company know just where they stand.  If this injury happened in training camp, the team would be able to do little in reaction ...

Gaborik to Undergo Surgery, Zuccarello Says Good-Bye

What seemed like it would be a quiet day on the New York Rangers' front has now turned into quite the circus with two breaking stories rapidly developing.  The first is in regard to forward Marian Gaborik, who insinuated that he was injured after the conclusion of the playoffs. The team confirmed today that Marian suffered a labral tear in his right shoulder during the quarterfinal...

Gaborik may be out 5-6 months w/ torn rotator

According to nhl.com, Marian Gaborik had an MRI on Tuesday and learned that he has a torn labrum. He told Slovakian newspaper SME that he will undergo surgery next Wednesday and could be out up to 5-6 months, though that timetable will likely change after surgery. As we mentioned in our report cards the other day, you can now forgive Gabby for under-performing during the playoffs...

Marian Gaborik's injury intensifies scoring need for NY

New York Rangers sniper Marian Gaborik will miss the start of next season while recovering from shoulder labrum surgery. So a team already lacking offensive punch will have that much more motivation to acquire another scorer. This development will intensify the franchise’s interest in Blue Jackets power forward Rick Nash.Gaborik played the final two rounds of the playoffs with the...

Glen Sather’s transformation is now complete

John Tortorella’s interview with Michael Kay and Don La Greca on ESPN Radio drew more attention (click here to read The Suit’s analysis), but few noticed that GM Glen Sather also spoke to the media on Wednesday. Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News managed to corner the Rangers’ seldom heard from brass leader and as with Tortorella, Slats delivered plenty of interesting comments...

Surgery required for Marian Gaborik

A report from ESPN's Katie Strang indicates that New York Rangers forward Marian Gaborik will need surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder. As a result of the surgery required, Gaborik is expected to need six months to recover which should force him to miss the beginning of the 2012-13 season.  Will Gaborik's injury force the Rangers to make a bigger play...

Rangers agree to terms with Oscar Lindberg

The signing parade continues. This time around, Oscar Lindberg has agreed to terms with the Rangers on an entry level contract. Lindberg was acquired by the Rangers in May of last year in exchange for prospect Ethan Werek. Lindberg was originally a 2nd round pick in 2009 by the Coyotes, and was acquired for his ability to add speed and face off prowess to the bottom six forwards...

2011-12 New York Rangers Report Card: Defensemen

Today I bring you Part II of the 2011-12 New York Rangers report card, this time analyzing the defensemen. Yesterday we graded all of the forwards, which you can see here.  Players are graded solely on their performance during the regular season, so playoffs are not taken into account. Beginning next week I will be reviewing each player individually, which is when their playoff...

It Finally Happened

That’s right folks. New York Rangers’ forward Marian Gaborik has “finally” gotten significantly injured as a member of the Blueshirts as we all found out today that he will need to have surgery on his rotator cuff and could miss up to six months. This might explain why Gaborik struggled during the postseason this year. Gaborik admitted that he got hurt in Game 3 of the first...

Something to think about

New York Rangers It's going to be a very interesting off-season for Glen Sather and the New York Rangers, especially considering coming off a season where they lost in the conference finals. Between deciding which of his free agents to keep, Glen Sather has to find not one scorer but a second one as well. The timing of the news that Marion Gaborik will be undergoing...

No Compassion For Gaborik

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post, So who exactly is being disrespectful to Rangers players, the writer who suggests a game plan based primarily on blocking shots and packing the defensive zone might not be broad enough to win the Stanley Cup, or the coach on his way to the summer who takes a verbal swipe at a player he knew to have played the final two rounds of the playoffs with...

I know you are but what am I?

(Courtesy New York Rangers) Say it loud, I am proud to be one of the "idiot" media covering the New York Rangers. So in true American fashion I say to John Tortorella that "I know you are but what am I?" Well, actually I don't like being called an idiot, nobody with any self-respect and pride likes to be treated the way John Tortorella treats the media...

Shooting down the Schultz suggestion

Justin Schultz is a very good prospect. There’s a distinct chance that should he indeed enter free agency, then the Anaheim Ducks will have lost a good player for the future. That said, it simply doesn’t make sense for the Rangers to be linked with him for various reasons. Yes, it’s rumoured and yes, plenty of Blueshirt fans would like him on the Rangers, but read on to find...
