Valtteri Filppula is becoming a force to be reckoned with…or at least the player the Red Wings have been waiting for. NHLHS Correspondent Christina Roberts gives a run-down on Filppula’s productivity so far this season.

Well, it’s about damn time, Valtteri Filppula.
Right now, the first Finnish player drafted by the Detroit Red Wings is on pace for the best season of his career. He has ten goals and fifteen assists for 25 points in 30 games, and is rated a +10. He’s being projected to hit around 65 or 70 points by the end of the season, which easily trumps his career high of 40 points hit in the 2008-2009 season.
It is seriously about time for this 27-year-old.
I’ve been a fan of Filppula since he made it on the roster full time back in 2006-2007. I saw how much potential he had, and for seasons following that, I kept telling people how good he was going to be. And it was all because he had his sporadic moments of looking like the ...

Red Wings-Canucks wrap-up: talked into a dogfight
Updated w/ Kronwall’s hit: The Detroit Red Wings came late to the party and found themselves devoured by their own mistakes—and what only Larry Murphy could call a “good play” on a ridiculous insurance goal—playing far too indecisively for far too long against a Canucks team with which they spent the morning complimenting, dropping a 4-2 decision.

Backup goaltender Ty Conklin allowed three goals on the first 15 shots Thursday en route to a 3-2 loss to the Flames, dropping the Wings to 8-10 on the road.

One more Red Wings-Canucks thing…The league agrees with Howard…
The points of controversy during the Detroit Red Wings’ 4-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks involved a hit for which Niklas Kronwall was neither fined nor suspended and a goal after which Jimmy Howard was not penalized for punching one Jannik Hansen, but just when you thought we were going to put the controversy behind us, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun (via RedWingsFeed) reports...

Detroit vs Calgary: Flame Off!
Detroit lost last night, oh well it happens. The team played weak as a whole and came up short. Lets move on to the Flames. This should be an easy win for the Wings, and a good Christmas present to the fans.Click the jump for more

Detroit Red Wings G Jimmy Howard latest victim of goalie crashing
Toronto Maple Leafs’ James Reimer and Buffalo Sabres’ Ryan Miller both got shelved for a bit this season as victims of goalie crashing.
Brian Gionta collided with Reimer while Milan Lucic barreled through Miller in open ice. It would have been a shame if Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red Wings came out seriously injured after last night.
Twitter erupted and some were appalled by...
What to watch today: Red Wings take on Canucks in late-night
Is it still a school night or has Christmas vacation started yet? Because the Red Wings have one of those West Coast face-offs in Vancouver. The Canucks got off to a slow start, but now they're one of the league's hottest teams, on an 11-2-1 streak, and most balanced, with a 30-goal differential. 10 p.m., Fox Sports Detroit.

For those who didn't watch the Canucks and Red Wings game last night it was good match for a pre-Christmas contest. In fact as the third period moved on it became quite heated particularly after Kronwall leveled Kesler with a huge hit along the boards.
I felt the hit was clean except that Kronwall 'launched' and left his...
Talented Canucks a good measuring stick for Red Wings
Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg offered a brilliant, if understated, explanation for why it's so hard to contain Henrik and Daniel Sedin, brothers and leading scorers of the Vancouver Canucks. "They've been playing with each other for basically their whole lives," Zetterberg said Tuesday, "so they've got pretty good chemistry."
Canucks' Ryan Kesler objects with hit by Red Wings' Niklas Kronwall
Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg readily admits that even for a slow starter, he was way behind.
Red Wings' Ty Conklin hoping to take advantage of rare start tonight
He'll face a Flames lineup missing several key players, as Rene Bourque is suspended, and David Moss (Michigan), Alex Tanguay and Matt Stajan all are out with various ailments.
