Found December 02, 2011 on It's Always Sunny in Detroit:

Better late than never, I guess. The Detroit Red Wings deserved to play host to an outdoor NHL Winter Classic within the first couple years of the existence of the game. Seen as the best organization in hockey by many, the NHL hasn't been shy to pushing, pulling and taking advantage of the Wings in recent years. The Wings should finally be moving to the Eastern Conference, but before then will be rewarded with an outdoor game. The specifics for when and where the game will be played, but they've been all but guaranteed to get one. MLive.com has learned that it'll either be next season or in 2013-14.
"We're on a short list," Wings vice president Jimmy Devellano said of cities being considered to host future games. "The list isn't very big. One of these years, in the not too distant future, we'll have the game."
The Wings have not discussed potential venues with the NHL yet, but according to MLive.com, there are two viable options. The two possibilities are Comerica Park in Detroit, home of the Detroit Tigers, and Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, home of the MIchigan Wolverines.

It smacks me in the face which venue would be better suited for this event. 1. It's in Detroit, not 45 minutes away from downtown. 2. Wings owner Mike Ilitch poured $300 million of his own money into getting this stadium built. 3. It's already been done at the other place. The only selection for this event is Comerica Park.

The sticky Red Wings realignment wicket

Ahead of what’s supposed to be a potentially fabric-of-the-NHL-chaging meeting of the NHL’s Board of Governors on Monday—assuming that what is truly a collection of power brokers generally consisting of hard-liners, dinosaurs, curmudgeons and a mostly aged and intransigent bunch doesn’t simply say, “Well, we don’t know what the hell’s going to happen with Phoenix, anyway...

2013 Winter Classic - Detroit's?

Pretty cool news.  Per Mlive and Khan(!):  The Detroit Red Wings are in deep discussions with the NHL about hosting an outdoor game within the next two seasons. MLive.com has learned the Red Wings expect to host the annual Winter Classic either next season or in 2013-14. That would be pretty awesome if you ask me.   Detroit and New York are the two cities who will be vying...

Kevin Freiheit: Jochen is smokin'

It was a pretty convincing win for Detroit a last night. I can't help but love watching them play. The Red Wings played extremely well in the first period and their puck movement is crisp and near perfection, especially on the power play. The Sabres fell behind early, and like Thomas Vanek said, "you fall behind 3-0 to Detroit and it's pretty much over." ...

My Sabre is Dull
