Bringing a merciful end to their collective, pent-up anxiety and delivering a much-needed and deserved relief to NHL fans the world over, the lockout, something that has maligned and made a mockery of the league while making both the owners and players villains and objects of abject derision, finally ended on Sunday morning. The conclusion of the lockout obviously was big news all over the web, in particular those sites that cover the sport, no matter how lazily (*cough — ESPN — cough*), but even sites that counts its typical area of coverage well outside the realm of sports managed to get in on the good news as well, including People.com. Yep, one of the top stories on People’s website on Monday was the fact that the lockout was over, but of course, being People, the angle through which the story was covered was far different than how it was reported on say, NHL.com, TSN.com, etc. How People elected to report it involved how Carrie Underwood has lost her “purse holder” husband, Nashville Predators star Mike Fisher. Via People.com: Most hockey fans are thrilled the 113-day NHL lockout is over.  Carrie Underwood? Not so much.  Although Underwood – who has been married to professional hockey player Mike Fisher since 2010 – was quick to celebrate her husband’s return to the ice, she couldn’t help but joke about it. The aforementioned joke was offered up by Underwood on Sunday via her Twitter account: Well, folks, hockey is back! Very bittersweet…I just lost my purse holder but gained cheering on my hot husband as he kicks butt! #GoPreds — Carrie Underwood (@carrieunderwood) January 6, 2013 I reckon few things are more emasculating for a man then being referred to as a “purse holder,” especially for a professional hockey player, but that’s the price Fisher has to pay for being married to Miss Carrie Underwood. And, more importantly, for actually being a purse holder: Hey, if the shoe fits, right? [H/T Puck Daddy] TweetThe post The top story on People.com on Monday? The end of the NHL lockout, of course (pic) appeared first on Sportress of Blogitude.
