Stanley-cup-practice
When the Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Boston Bruins 4-1 at TD Garden in first game of the Eastern Conference quarter finals,  I thought for sure it was going to be a four game sweep. Thankfully. the Leafs came back in game two to win 4-2 and tie the series 1-1.  Leading by a slim margin of 3-2, James Van Riemsdyk scored a highlight reel goal with less than three minutes to go in the third period to give Toronto some much needed insurance. When Toronto returned home for game three, Leaf fans were exited.  Unfortunately, the Bruins spoiled the party by defeating the Leafs 5-2. Game four started out okay the Leafs as they scored two goals in the first period.  However, the Bruins tied it up in the second period and took a 3-2 lead at one point.  Toronto tied it up by the end of the period. There was no scoring in the third period, so the game went into overtime.  Between the third and overtime periods, Don Cherry of  CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada said that the Leafs had to win this game.  Losing this game meant that the Leafs would have to back to Boston down 3-1 in  the series.  Cherry said the Leafs would have no chance against Boston in game five if they lost game four in overtime and I believed him. I was on the edge of my seat as I watched the Leafs and the Bruins battle it out in overtime.   I knew the Leafs were in trouble when Boston’s goalie, Tuukka Rask stopped everything that came his way.  Toronto’s Matt Frattin almost won the game for his team during the overtime period.  Unfortunately, Frattin’s shot hit the post.  To add insult to injury, seconds later, David Krejci scored the winning goal for Boston. them ca As my heart sank as I watched the puck go behind Toronto’s goalie, James Reimer, I knew it was basically over for the Leafs.  At this point,  I have no faith.  I can’t see them coming back from a 3-1 series deficit, not against the Bruins anyway.  They (Bruins) are just too good a team.

Toronto’s Mark Fraser Was Hit In The Face With Puck And It Looked Excruciatingly Painful

Need another reason to think that hockey is a dangerous sport? In the third period of Game 4 of the Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins series, Toronto defenseman Mark Fraser was the victim of a frightening moment. While Fraser was skating around he caught a screaming shot by Boston’s Milan Lucic with his face. Unfortunately for Fraser he does not wear a visor so the puck smashed directly...

Toronto’s Mark Fraser Has Surgery to Repair Facial Fracture After Taking Shot to Face (Video)

The NHL has seen an unfortunate number of players taking slapshots to the face this season (Sidney Crosby and Marc Staal, to name a few). Mark Fraser became the latest victim Wednesday night, when a one-timer off the stick of Boston’s Milan Lucic sent the Maple Leafs defenseman down to the ice in a heap. Fraser underwent surgery to repair a facial fracture in the cranial area...

The hostile stare down between Elisha Cuthbert and Reimer’s wife that wasn’t (video)

In a classic case of “Much Ado About Nothing,” Elisha Cuthbert, the gorgeous actress girlfriend of Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf, and April Reimer, the beautiful wife of Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer, appeared to be setting the stage of a WAG-on-WAG cat fight for the ages when the two appeared to engage in an ultimate stare down during at the conclusion of...

Mike Augello: Reimer To The Rescue; Leafs Stay Alive With Game 5 Win

James Reimer did not appear intimidated in the first playoff experience of his NHL career, but through the first four games of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Boston Bruins, he had not made a monumental save that swung momentum in his team’s favor. That all changed in the second period of Friday’s game at TD Garden, as Reimer's acrobatic...

Leafs survive, force Game 6 at home

Tyler Bozak and Clarke MacArthur scored and James Reimer stopped 43 shots Friday night to help the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Boston Bruins 2-1 and stay alive in their first-round playoff series. Game 6 is Sunday in Toronto, with the decisive seventh game back in Boston on Monday, if necessary. Boston has won both games in Toronto in the series and has not lost on the Leafs&...

James Reimer’s Unreal ‘Stick Shift’ Changes Tone of Series As Bruins Head to Toronto for Game 6 (Video)

The Bruins surged in the final 20 minutes of Game 5, but the Maple Leafs were able to hold on for dear life and escape TD Garden with a series-saving victory. Now, the venue shifts back to Toronto for a Sunday night showdown, where the Bruins will once again try to close out the pesky Maple Leafs. Jaromir Jagr had a great chance at knotting this one up during the frantic final minutes...

Leafs' Fraser has surgery on face

The NHL has seen an unfortunate number of players taking shots to the face this season (see: Sidney Crosby and Marc Staal). Mark Fraser became the latest victim Wednesday night, when a one-timer off the stick of Boston's Milan Lucic sent the Maple Leafs defenseman down to the ice in a heap. Fraser underwent surgery to repair a facial fracture in the cranial area -- literally...

Mikhail Grabovski tries dazzling move on Tuukka Rask

Had this play worked this would have been one of the most talked about goals in hockey history.  Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mikhail Grabovski decided to pull out all the stops during game five of their series with the Boston Bruins.  The Maple Leafs were down 3-1 in the series and were in desperation mode the entire game.  Grabovski was given plenty of space behind the net and...

Ty Anderson: Reimer stymies B's to force Game 6

There was an undeniable heartbreak for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. Squaring off with the Bruins in search of knotting their first playoff series since 2004 up at 2-2, a thoroughly one-sided final 33 minutes of play brought little relief to an anxious Air Canada Centre, and despite a combined 25 shots in the third and overtime frame, it would be a bad pinch from...

Maple Leafs Daring to ‘Poke the Bear,’ But Have Yet to Pay Price for Physical Play (Video)

Bruins fans have heard it so many times: “Don’t poke the bear.” Still, that’s exactly what the Maple Leafs did in Game 5, including a couple of borderline hits on Zdeno Chara and Adam McQuaid. The Bruins usually thrive in those sorts of situations, but James Reimer seems determined not to let them. All in all, there’s plenty of drama still to play out in this series. NESN...

April Reimer and Elisha Cuthbert’s misunderstood stare down

After Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf made a horrible pinch in the offensive zone in overtime, the Boston Bruins went down on an odd-man rush and Bruins forward David Krejci scored the game-winning goal on James Reimer.  The goal that Reimer let in was particularly weak, and the reaction from his wife April Reimer and Phaneuf’s fiance Elisha Cuthbert seemed like it...

James Reimer Stonewalls Bruins As Maple Leafs, Red Wings Stave Off Elimination (Videos)

James Reimer gave Bruins fans flashbacks Friday night, as his save on Patrice Bergeron was straight out of Tim Thomas‘ playbook. With Bergeron bearing down on him, the Maple Leafs goalie threw out his right leg and just nicked the puck with his toe, sending it wide of the net. After being Toronto’s weak link thus far in the teams’ opening-round series, Reimer was stellar in...

Maple Leafs-Bruins Preview

The third win over the Toronto Maple Leafs was pretty difficult. And yet the Boston Bruins know that the fourth will be even harder. The Bruins returned to the TD Garden for an optional practice on Thursday, just hours after David Krejci completed a hat trick with an overtime winner that gave Boston a 3-1 lead over Toronto in the best-of-seven playoff series. ''I guess...

The Reimers And Phaneufs Will Still Be Breaking Holiday Bread

((HT: Sportsnet/CBC)) At least, the HQ doesn't think so... It was Phaneuf's attempted kill shot of the Bruins Nathan Horton which resulted in the game-winning goal in last night's Leafs loss in overtime to Boston. As is CBC's custom, the "Hockey Night in Canada" crew had a camera fixed on Leafs' goalie James Reimer's wife, April, and his...
