Following the excitement of the Brad Richards signing, Glen Sather made a relatively interesting statement that the Rangers were not finished, and that they were going to look for a veteran defenseman. With the signings of Richards, Mike Rupp, and Ruslan Fedotenko, the Rangers are now a bit stocked at the forward position, so while there are some free agent options that are intriguing, it is likely that the Rangers will pursue a trade using a spare part (Erik Christensen comes to mind) to acquire a veteran on the cheap. When it comes to cap space, it’s safe to assume the Rangers will have about $3 million to work with after signing their five key RFAs.
On the free agency side, looking at the list of who is still available, there are some good options available.
