Three Penguins Players Recovering from Significant Surgeries
Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

Kris Letang headlines a group of Pittsburgh Penguins players who have undergone significant surgeries in recent days.

Letang had an operation in New York May 10 to repair a fractured finger on his left hand. His projected recovery time is eight weeks, which means he should be ready well before the start of training camp.

The prognosis isn’t as promising for defenseman John Ludvig, who is expected to be sidelined for four to six months after having surgery April 24 because of a damaged extensor tendon in his left wrist.

The anticipated recovery time is even longer for winger Matt Nieto.

He had an operation in Minnesota to reconstruct the medial collateral ligament in his left knee on May 2, and is expected to need six or seven months to recover.

The procedures for all three players were conducted in collaboration for Dr. Dharmesh Vyas, the Penguins’ head team physicians.
