Nicklas Lidstrom officially retired yesterday after playing 20 years with the Detroit Red Wings. Team owner Mike Ilitch called it “one of the most emotional days in Red Wing history.” (USA Today)

Some of Lidstrom’s ex teammates shared memories about the now former Red Wing. (Detroit Free Press)

It is hard to say good-bye, but Mitch Albom said it best. “Realizing he was really quitting Thursday was like waking up and realizing your favorite neighbors were actually moving, or the beloved schoolteacher was on her last day. Lidstrom was so quietly exceptional, we didn't celebrate him enough on a daily basis.” (Detroit Free Press)

Justin Williams may have been the Kings second leading scorer during the regular season and the guy who set up Anze Kopitar for his game 1 winner, but he’s not garnering too much attention for it. (L.A. Times)

The Kings are working to find a way for their fans to hear Bob Miller call a game if L.A. reaches a Stanley Cup-clinching game. The catch, it won’t be live. (L.A. Times)

Devil defensemen Adam Larsson was saddened that he never had the chance to go up against fellow Swede Nicklas Lidstrom before he retired. (Star-Ledger)

New Jersey is down 1-0 in the Stanley Cup Final and know (and are confident) they can make adjustments. (Star-Ledger)

Anze Kopitar is the toast of the town in Slovenia. (The Record)

WABC made a big error yesterday, suggesting the New York Islanders are playing the L.A. Kings for the Stanley Cup. Maybe some wishful thinking on their part. (deadspin)

A very interesting article by Ellen Etchingham about CBC’s While the Men Watch, women hockey fans and the stereotypes placed on them. (Backhand Shelf)

Tim Thomas is considering a taking a year off from hockey. (Puck Daddy)

The Stanley Cup Final game 1 TV ratings hit a five-year low, drawing just 2.9 million viewers. They were beat out bye the NBA draft lottery. (Puck the Media)
