The story regarding Todd Bertuzzi possibly telling the Nashville Predators to get their own damn ping pong table was mostly debunked this morning via Twitter, so the Detroit Free Press’s Helene St. James tried to get to the bottom of the story: “I came out of our room, saw some of their guys wanting to play on our Ping Pong tables and told security,” Bertuzzi told the Free Press. “I didn’t do anything else. I didn’t move the table myself.” Rumors that Bertuzzi had personally packed up the table and wheeled it away swirled around the morning skates today. The Wings host the Predators at 7:30 (NBCSN, FSD) in Game 4 looking to even the first-round series. No one among the Wings had heard of Ping Pong Gate, but greeted it with delight. “You know he’s a terrible Ping Pong player,” Danny Cleary said with a grin. “At least he can do something with it. But it’s good. He’s our sheriff around here.”Continue reading "Todd Bertuzzi clarifies details of Red Wings’ ping pong-gate"

Red Wings defend home table

Apparently, tough guys play Ping-Pong. Although the Detroit Red Wings have had recent troubles defending their home ice, they're having no such issue with their rec-room features inside Joe Louis Arena. Todd Bertuzzi reportedly spotted a couple of Nashville Predators players lurking around the Wings' Ping-Pong table on Monday afternoon and promptly dealt with the matter...

Intent to Know: Bertuzzi Does Not Like to Share

Turns out a few of the Predators like to play Ping Pong. Turns out Todd Bertuzzi doesn't like to share with people who think it's funny to assault his teammates.I like to imagine it went something like this:

Her comes the inevitable, ‘Is this his last year?’ story about Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom

The Associated Press’s Larry Lage has filed the preliminary version of a story about Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom that will be bolstered with quotes from the 41-year-old about, well, the inevitable given the possibility that the Wings will play their last game of the season at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday if they can’t rally from their 2-1 series deficit: Detroit Red Wings...

Evening Red Wings bullet points and a programming note

Paul might wonder if I’m trying to take out a monopoly on the front page given today’s Red Wings-related activity, given the Shanban post, the Black Aces press release, the epic practice post (I actually put about eight hours of work into that one), news about the Red Wings’ uptick in revenues, the pre-game playoff festivities post, Brad Stuart’s take on the lack of respect...

#Webering, meet, ‘You guys wanna play ping pong, bring your own table’

Given the blather and silliness of last week’s #Webering craze, well…This is plain old weird, but the Production Line’s Michael Petrella took note of an exchange Todd Bertuzzi (ironically enough) had with the Nashville Predators’ players after Tuesday’s practice, as confirmed by MLive’s Ansar Khan and the NHL Network’s Dave Strader: From Red Wings TV producer @Will_Posthumus...

Red Wings practice day news: Line shifting rules the day? Helm speaks

Updated w/ a Howard story at 12:57 PM: The Red Wings’ coaches chose to shake things up in the personnel department a day after Detroit dropped a 3-2 decision to the Nashville Predators, and the Wings’ personnel tweaks ahead of a must-win Game 4 had nothing to do with the recalling of 11 Black Aces from Grand Rapids. MLive’s Ansar Khan provides the details thereof... Wings’...

Business is booming for the social media-oriented Red Wings

We know that the economy is starting to rebound, if only ever-so-slowly, in Michigan, and while the job market and municipal financial situations remain pretty damn bleak, MLive’s Michael Wayland reports that those who can save their pennies are helping the Red Wings return to a state of financial health so strong that it hearkens back to the heady “Mid Naughts”: Eight hundred...

Red Wings-Predators Game 4 wrap-up: baffling loss leaves Wings in tough—or are they ‘done?’

The Detroit Red Wings’ 3-1 loss to the Nashville Predators didn’t exactly leave me—or you—speechless in the quick take, but as fans like you and me ponder what’s going on with a clearly wounded animal heading into Friday night’s game (yes, it might be Nicklas Lidstrom and/or Tomas Holmstrom’s last games as Wings, and yes, we may have already witnessed our last game...

Rinne stops 41 shots as Detroit loses Game 3

Game 3 was a welcome sight to many Detroit Red Wings fans. After securing a win in their opponent’s building on Friday night, the series and games 3 and 4 shifted to the friendly confines of the Joe Louis Arena. It’s a place where the Wings had won 23 straight home games in a row this season, and filled with 20,066 fans again on Sunday for the 70th consecutive time. It was also...

Red Wings lose pivotal Game 4 at home

DETROIT (AP) -- Kevin Klein scored a go-ahead goal 6:25 into the third period and Pekka Rinne made 40 saves, lifting the Nashville Predators to a 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night and a 3-1 lead in the first-round Western Conference playoff series. The Predators can eliminate Detroit in Game 5 on Friday night in Nashville. Predators rookie Gabriel Bourque broke...

Red Wings Predators Game 4 quick take: self-destruction made easy

At this point, it appears that the Detroit Red Wings may very well play the last game of the 2010-2011 season Friday night in Nashville. The Red Wings out-shot Nashville 41-17 and had every opportunity to score on this year’s version of Dwayne Roloson, circa 2006, in one Pekka Rinne… And instead of bearing down on their chances in the Predators’ zone, three catastrophic defensive...

Red Wings-Predators Game 4 set-up: Wings hope to re-take control of a series that’s slipping away

As the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators prepare to face off tonight in Game 4 (7:30 PM EDT, FSD/FS Tennessee/CBC/CNBC/97.1 FM), which may very well determine whether the purported seven-game slugfest between Detroit and Nashville will in fact go the distance, or will, instead, be a short and disappointing series for Red Wings fans… Aside from some potential line changes...

Red Wings-Predators Game 4 game-day updates: On beating Rinne, Hal Gill and ping pong-gate

The Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators will face off tonight for an all-important Game 4 (7:30 PM EDT, FSD/FS Tennessee/CNBC/CBC/97.1 FM), MLive’s Ansar Khan reports that the Wings’ players received a little break in terms of managing their energy levels, despite the fact that ESPN’s Criag Custance reports that ping-pong gate was in fact an exaggeration(!), and that...

Todd Bertuzzi does not share well with others

Honesty may have doomed the Red Wings in terms of Shea Weber’s suspension

The Red Wings are on the ice for practice as I write this, with MLive’s Ansar Khan reporting that Nicklas Lidstrom and Ian White are skating together, and NHL.com’s Brian Hedger reporting that Danny Cleary’s skating on the Datsyuk line, with Gustav Nyquist demoted to the 4th line and Todd Bertuzzi skating with Miller and Abdelkader… And while that should tide you over till...
