Different game, similar results.
Despite outshooting the Ottawa Senators by a significant margin in Monday night's 3-2 shootout loss, the New Jersey Devils were held to two goals or less for the fifth time in their last six games and fell short as a result.
- I thought the Devils played one of their best games of the season against the Senators. Ottawa is known as a puck posses...

The Bruins made a peculiar move on Wednesday afternoon around the waiver wire.
According to reports, the B’s claimed forward Kaspars Daugavins off waivers after the Senators put the 24-year-old on waivers on Monday. Daugavins will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season, and he’s making just $635,000 this season, according to CapGeek.com.
Daugavins is no stranger...
New Jersey Devils top prospect, Jon Merrill, has made his decision.
The 21-year-old defenseman decided to turn pro and has signed a three-year entry level contract with the Devils. Merrill's contract kicks in at the start of the 2013-14 season.
Merrill also signed an amateur tryout and will report to Albany for the remainder of the season, according to Bob McKenzie.
I think it's safe to say that if David Dziurzynski had not been knocked out March 6 vs Toronto, Kaspars Daugavins would not have been waived yesterday. But instead we saw a reactionary trade for Matt Kassian, and a useful depth player waived and then claimed by a superior team.
AJ Jakubec suggested yesterday afternoon that the reasoning behind the waiving was a complaint...
Jon Merrill has opted to forego his final season at the University of Michigan to sign with the New Jersey Devils, the team that selected him No. 38 overall in the 2010 NHL Draft. This per TSN’s Bob McKenzie on Wednesday morning.
Merrill will report to the Devils’ AHL affiliate in Albany for the remainder of the season, then presumably will have a shot to crack the NHL roster...
Producing 13 shots at home is never going to help you with a metric dependent on shot attempts. So while last night's game was particularly poor and not really representative, the trend of the graph is clear.
With Karlsson the Senators were taking 53.0% of the shot attempts in score close situations, the past 19 games without Karlsson they've been taking 47.5%. League...

Win or lose, the Ottawa Senators aren't generally a team that gets out-played over sixty minutes. A handy chart showing Ottawa's shot plus-minus for every single game through March 25th kind of illustrates this -- aside from a game in Montreal two weeks ago, Ottawa's generally either been (a) the better team; or (b) a coin-flip...
The New Jersey Devils dropped a hard-fought game in a shootout to the Ottawa Senators on Monday night. Jersey's Team showed a lot of character in this game, however, which should be encouraging to Devils fans. Already without Ilya Kovalchuk, the Devils lost Bryce Salvador and Stephen Gionta after the first period to injury. With only sixteen skaters for the second and third period...
University of Michigan defenseman Jon Merrill, a New Jersey Devils draft pick, and Jacob Trouba, a draft pick of the Jets, must decide in the near future if they’ll jump ship from Ann Arbor to begin their pro careers.
From TSN’s Bob McKenzie:
WPG prospect Jacob Trouba, the Univ of Michigan D whose NCAA season ended Sun, taking a couple of days to decide if he should turn pro...
Darren Dreger of TSN conducts a sit down with Brendan Shanahan to discuss player safety.
It's a short video, under 5 minutes but worth a view just to watch why Shanahan once drove 3 1/2 hours to hear two words.

#Sens to place Kaspars Daugavins on waivers today
— Jay Grossman (@Jay_Grossman) March 26, 2013
For those of you who are familiar with our podcasts, you'll know that Jay Grossman is Kaspars Daugavins' agent.
The timing of the news is some level isn't that surprising considering Daugavins essentially played one of his best games of the season last week versus...
The New Jersey Devils will face-off against the Ottawa Senators on Monday evening at Scotiabank Place. Puck drop is set for 7:30 PM. The Devils (15-11-6)
