The annual Young Stars Tournament opened up Thursday night and the Vancouver Canucks started off on a high note.
The Canucks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Bo Horvat and never trailed en route to a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks.
Here are some thoughts on the game:
- I'll start with Horvat. He was exceptional all game long an...

Plenty of potential at Young Stars tourney
The Young Stars tournament is well underway in Penticton with the Vancouver Canucks kids doing their best to impress upper management.
And while everyone seems to have their eyes focused on the Horvat’s, Gaunce’s and Jensen’s, there’s a pretty decent group of undiscovered talent that will be trying to fight their way to a spot somewhere...
Thursday was the kickoff to rookie tournament launching in some small way the new Canucks season.
Funny it felt just like the old one.
The Young Canucks beat the Young Sharks 3-2 in a game so filled with Vancouver penalties it felt much like a continuation of the playoffs. In between the penalties however they managed to play some hockey and there were some interesting moments...
Canucks could help bring home a trophy?
Ah fall, the time where the leaves begins to change color, bikinis are sadly packed away in favour of parkas and morning iced coffees become hot again.
Hang on, this also means hockey season is nearly upon us… which means Fantasy Hockey is almost here and its time to prepare to draft like a champion so you can ridicule your friends mercilessly...
Roberto Luongo returned to the city he thought he'd left for good Friday pulling on a Vancouver Canucks practice sweater for the first time since the team shocked everyone -- especially Luongo -- by instead trading Cory Schneider to the New Jersey Devils at the NHL Draft.
Almost two months later Luongo said it still seemed strange to come back.
"It was a bit odd flying...

John Tortorella feels “privileged and honoured” to have the opportunity to be an NHL head coach in Canada and become the 17th bench boss in Vancouver Canucks history.
“It’s something I’ve always thought about,” Tortorella, a native of Bedford, Mass.., and Vancouver’s first U.S.-born coach, told reporters earlier this summer. “One of my dreams … was hoping some...
from Steve Ewen of the Vancouver Province,
The Vancouver Canucks goaltender fired off a tweet from his @strombone1 handle on Thursday, proclaiming “Can’t wait to see all my friends tomorrow! All are welcome!” It featured a picture of himself in the middle of a media scrum.
Sure enough, 20 or so newspaper, radio, television and blogger types showed up at UBC to get...
Bo Horvat (@BoHorvat)
Vancouver‘s 1st round (9th overall) draft pick Bo Horvat was front and center Thursday night in Penticton B.C, and didn’t disappoint. On only his second shift of the game, Horvat jumped on a turnover in the slot caused by pesky forechecker and fellow first round draft pick Hunter Shinkaruk, and with a quick release to the top corner, Bo has arrived...

The annual Young Stars Tournament begins tonight as the Vancouver Canucks take on the San Jose Sharks at 10:30ET/7:30PT.
As someone who follows prospects very closely, I'm extremely excited about this matchup. The likes of Bo Horvat and Hunter Shinkaruk will be on display for the Canucks while Tomas Hertl and Mirco Mueller, among...

The Calgary Flames rookie squad took on that of the Vancouver Canucks last night in what seemed like a potential domination from the Canucks team. The Flames, however, came out with a 4-1 win despite being outshot in the first period 8-18.
The Flames rookies came out of the gates rather slow and seemed a little less composed than displayed...

Before I give my thoughts on last nights prospects game, let's deal with the real Canucks news first.
Roberto Luongo took to the ice with his teammates yesterday, for the first time this season. After he spoke to the media and posed for a few photos with fans.
Some of the quotes...
