Tomas Holmstrom sure has come a long, long way since being drafted 257th overall in the 1994 NHL draft. He has spent his entire career (to date) in Detroit, scoring 240 goals to go along with his 284 assists. The Swede has been a key cog for the Wings in front of goal, helping the Wings to 4 Stanley Cups.
Number 96 has been a fan-favorite in Detroit, and can often be found in front of goal pestering opposing goaltenders and defensemen. Tomas has spent 753 minutes in the penalty box, and I’d be willing to bet a large majority of those were interference calls.
I look forward to 96 closing out his career in Hockeytown, as he will always be remembered as one of the best. Not the most skillful or fleet-of-foot (or skate), but one helluva hockey player. Thanks for the memories, 96.
