I haven’t mentioned the question of playoff MVP since the first round when I picked Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers.  He has been out of the playoffs since the end of the second round but I would still argue he is likely the playoff win shares leader among position players.  He is starting to be challenged - most clearly by Dustin Brown of Los Angeles.  I think the best players of the playoffs have been the West Conference goalies.  Jonathan Quick and Mike Smith have had incredible playoffs.  The success of their respective teams is strongly due to their strong play.  Quick has a .946 saves percentage and a 1.54 GAA.  Smith has faced significantly more shots per game and has a .944 saves percentage and a 1.99 GAA.  I pick Smith as having more playoff win shares at this point because of his heavy workload but he is out of the playoffs.  Therefore Jonathan Quick is the top player in the Conn Smythe race as he is playing well is still active in the playoffs. Philadelphia Flyers 2012-13: A Look at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft Picks

By: Tyler J. Altemose (@TJamesAltemose) With the 2012 NHL Entry Draft less than a month away I thought it would be convenient if Flyers fans could see exactly what their draft pick situation looks like. This list is obviously subject to change, both because the Flyers up to and during the draft may make moves that will alter their current position. Furthermore, there’s a possibility...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Shelley and Sestito, Today in Flyers' History

When the Flyers signed Jody Shelley in the 2010 offseason, the club overpaid to lure the veteran enforcer away from the New York Rangers. He received a three-year contract worth $1.1 million against the salary cap. Over the course of his tenure in Philadelphia, Shelley has been a good solider who has been unpopular with a segment of the fan base solely because of his contract...

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings -- Young D, Pelle's 53rd

Several weeks ago, while the Flyers' contingent of playoff Black Aces were working out at the Skate Zone in Voorhees, player development coach Derian Hatcher said via text that he's seen marked improvement in many of the young defensemen in the system from the start of training camp to the end of the season. At the head of the class this year were Marc-Andre Bourdon...

Reebok comes up with a slick marketing campaign

The Los Angeles Kings have stunned the hockey world by making a run to the Stanley Cup finals. In the middle of it all is Kings goalie Jonathan Quick. He has stood tall in net and has played above his head this postseason. Reebok saw enough of Quick to make him the center of a marketing campaign. It might be a ploy to sell more jerseys to women or just more Kings jerseys in general...

NHL 13 Cover Vote Final Four: Malkin, Giroux, Tavares, Rinne

For this year's NHL game, EA Sports came up with a cool idea of letting us, the fans, vote for who we want to be on the cover of NHL 13. The vote is now in the Semi-Finals, and the remaining players are Evgeni Malkin, Claude Giroux, Pekka Rinne and John Tavares.I myself love the NHL series and play NHL 12 a lot. My vote goes to Claude Giroux. Who would you vote for? You can vote...

Eric Engels: Kings' Cup, Brodeur's Legend, Gauthier's Muck

What's to be said of this Los Angeles team that limped into the playoffs, and cruised to the Stanley Cup Finals in 14 games? What's more impressive: That the Kings have scored goals at will after a season in which they couldn't buy one when they needed it most? Or, that Jonathan Quick has allowed 22 goals in the 14 games he's played? What could be more remarkable...

NHL: My Stanley Cup Finals Pick

If you claim to have predicted a Devils-Kings Stanley Cup Finals at the beginning of the season or even the beginning of the playoffs, you're lying. That's what's great about the NHL playoffs.  No one predicted this matchup.  For that reason and the fact that these are two very good, deep teams, this will be a great series. First and foremost, the goaltending...
