Toronto Maple Leafs’ Calle Jarnkrok out week-to-week with hand injury
? Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

More bad luck for one of the key depth players on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

On Friday, head coach Sheldon Keefe told the media that forward Calle Jarnkrok is out week-to-week with another hand injury.

The Swedish-born player was injured during the Leafs’ 6-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. While chasing the puck heading into the offensive zone during the second period, Jarnkrok fell awkwardly into the sideboards, and ended up receiving medical attention before skating off under his own power.

He did not return to the game.

It is a tough blow for Jarnkrok, who returned to the lineup after missing 13 games with a broken knuckle that he suffered after getting hit by a shot during practice in late January. At first glance, the 32-year-old looked to have injured his left hand against the Flyers, the same one he had hurt before.

Thursday night was his sixth game back since returning from the broken knuckle. In 52 games, Jarnkrok has scored 10 goals and 11 assists.

Prior to these injuries, Jarnkrok had typically been healthy during his tenure with the Leafs, and has been a mainstay in the bottom six since joining the team prior to last season. In 125 games in Toronto, the former Calgary Flame has posted 30 goals and 30 assists, registering three points during the Leafs’ run to the second round of last year’s playoffs.

In 699 career games, Jarnkrok has put up 136 goals and 165 assists, including 22 points in 86 playoff games.

While also speaking to the media on Friday, Keefe stated that there is no new update on Mitch Marner, who has missed the team’s last two games with a reported high-ankle sprain. However, Keefe assured that Marner will not play Saturday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Leafs (38-19-8) are still third in the Atlantic Division, 10 points back of the Florida Panthers for first, but are eight ahead of the fourth-place Tampa Bay Lightning.
