After three straight losses, the Toronto Maple Leafs ended the week in unbelievable fashion.  Toronto defeated the team with the best  record in the National Hockey League.  The Chicago Blackhawks.  The score wasn’t close either.   The Leafs won 7-3. “We played our system,” said Leaf’s head coach, Randy Carlyle during the post game press conference.  Carlyle went on to say that the team tried to create offense.  Obviously, it worked.  Toronto’s seven goals were a season high. Peter Holland racked up three points during the game.  ”We know he’s (Holland) a skilled guy,” said Carlyle. Remember in my last article I mentioned the Leafs were giving up 40 shots per game.  Well, in the Chicago game, Toronto gave up just 28 shots.  Leaf’s goalie, Jonathan Bernier made 25 saves. The Leafs needed a big win after a bad loss to the St. Louis Blues.   The Leafs played bad right from the get go.  By the end of the opening period, Toronto was down 3-0.  I switched the channel after the third goal was scored. Carlyle described his team as being “totally brain dead.” I switch back to the game to see what the score was.  It was 4-0 Blues.  I basically gave up and went to bed. The final score was 6-3 St. Louis.  Terrible.  Absolutely terrible. The game against the Los Angeles Kings was a better effort despite the 3-1 loss.  Carlyle said it was by far his team’s best effort. David Clarkson got suspended for the second time this season. There was some bad news for the Leafs.   Forward, David Clarkson got suspended for two games for an illegal check on Blue’s player, Vladmir Sobotka.  This is the second time Clarkson has been suspended this season.  Clarkson missed almost the first month of the season after being suspended for a stick swinging incident in a preseason game against Buffalo. The Leafs face Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight.
