For the last few games, the Toronto Maple Leafs had to face questionable officiating. The game against the Buffalo Sabres ended in controversy.  Tied 2-2, with under a minute to go in regulation, Leaf’s forward, James Van Riemsdyk had a short-handed break away.  Buffalo’s Matt D’Agostini caught up with Van Riemsdyk and brought him down as if he trip him.  However, the officials ruled that D’Agostini touched the puck during the play. Leaf’s head coach, Randy Carlyle was not too happy with the call.  ”I thought it should have  been a penalty,” he said during the post game press conference. The Sabres scored in overtime and got the 3-2 victory. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for the Leafs, it did. Then next night, Toronto faced their rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens jumped out to a 2-0 lead and  never looked back.  Montreal won the game 4-2. “Obviously, we’re not winning the battles,” said Carlyle. Leaf goalie, Jonathan Bernier made 41 saves during the game. The Leafs next opponent was another tough customer.  The San Jose Sharks. To me, the Leafs should have got a point, but bad refereeing hurt the team again. There were two calls that were missed. In the first period, the Leafs were short two men.  A Shark player tripped up Tyler Bozak, but no penalty was called. Seconds later, Joe Thornton scored on the five on three to put the Sharks up 2-0. The Leafs tied the game in the second period. Moments before the Sharks scored their third goal, another Leaf player was tripped up.  Again, no penalty.  Mere seconds later, the Sharks took a 3-2 lead. The put the game on ice with a empty net goal in the third period. Thankfully, the last three losses hasn’t hurt the Leafs in the Eastern Conference standings.  Toronto is in sixth place. The schedule gets tougher for the Leafs as the team host Dallas tomorrow night.
