In a 4-0 Leaf win against the Nashville Predators, Toronto’s Cody Franson was hit from behind by Mike Fisher in the third period. Franson went face first into the glass and laid motionless on the ice for a minute or two before being helped off by the Leaf’s training staff. Franson also left a small pool of blood after cutting his face with what Toronto’s head coach, Randy Carlyle said, “From his own visor.” Fisher received a five minute major and a game misconduct for boarding.  The question is, should Fisher be suspended for the hit? I say yes. The NHl, in recent have been trying to stop hits from behind and if the league is serious about this Fisher should have got a game or two.  The fact that Fisher is a star player should not come into consideration. Toronto scored two goals during the five minute power play. In other Leaf news from this past week,  Toronto suffered their first loss to the Colorado Avalanche.   It wasn’t for the lack of trying.  Down 2-1,  the Toronto Maple Leafs scrambled to score the tying goal with the empty net, but couldn’t get the puck passed the Avalache’s goalie. Toronto increased their record to 5 -1 this past weekend with a 6-5 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers. Despite the victory, Carlyle did not praise his team. “It was a game of mistakes and each team seemed to capitalize on one another’s mistakes,” said Carlyle.  ” The fortunate part for us was we were on the right side of it.” Yes.   It was fortunate.  Edmonton’s goal tending is not great right now.  Toronto should have had total control of that game, but didn’t. Dave Bolland scored the overtime winner.  ”He (Bolland) tries to make himself better every day,” said Carlyle. I can’t argue with that point.  Bolland has made his presence known in the first six games of the season.  Now I have three favorite players.  Bolland, Dion Phaneuf, and Nazem Kadri.
