Did you hear that moaning and groaning the other night.  That was Leaf fans witnessing the biggest collapses in the team’s history. The Toronto Maple Leafs built themselves a 4-1 lead in the third period in game seven of the Eastern Conference quarter finals against Boston.  Unfortunately, Toronto let it slip away.  As a result, the Leafs lost the game in overtime 5-4. To get the whole story of the seven game series,  we must go back to game five. To my surprise, the Leafs won the game 2-1, thanks to goal tender James Reimer.  He made an astonishing 43 saves that night. Game six was played in Toronto. It  was tied 0-0 for two periods. Leaf’s captain, Dion Phaneuf scored the first goal of the game in the third period.  Phil Kessel gave the Leafs some much needed insurance later in the period. With just 24 seconds to go in the  regulation, the Bruins scored to cut the Leaf’s lead to 2-1.   I’ll be honest, the last 24 seconds was hardest to watch, but thankfully, the Leafs held on to win and force a game seven in Boston. The thing that helped the Leafs during this game was their constant body checking in the second period.  Toronto was hitting everything sight. Boston opened the scoring in the first period of game seven.  I couldn’t bare to watch.  I switched the channel after the goal was scored. It wasn’t until I heard the Leafs were up 2-1 in the third period that I decided to switch it back to the game.  I then went into the kitchen and heard someone on the radio saying something about the Leafs had scored again.  Sure enough, when I got back  to the game, Toronto was up 3-1. Just minutes later, the Leafs scored again.  At that point. my heart filled up with excitement.  I thought to myself  ”Could it be   possible.”  ”Could the Leafs pull off the upset.”  Well, we now know the answer to that. With seconds to go in regulation, Boston tied it up. Despite the lost, Reimer made 30 saves during game seven. As disappointed as I was, I take comfort in the fact that the Leafs pushed the Bruins to the limit.  I didn’t think Toronto would’ve force seventh game.  In fact, if someone had told me this was going to happen before the series started, I probably would’ve thought that person was nuts.
