Prior to last night's game John Tortorella discussed Michael Del Zotto's progression this year (via Blueshirts United)..."The thing that's encouraging to me is that I think he listened as we were going through some steps last year, and made some adjustments as far as the mental part of the game," stated Tortorella. "He came into camp in really good shape, and has defended hard, and that's been a huge improvement in his game. And I think his offense is coming more and more. The biggest improvement, for me, is his mindset, as far as learning to be a pro. We expect so much out of him at such a young age because of the way he splashed on to us (two seasons ago), and we are trying to be patient with him, and trying to help him regain some of his swagger."Del Zotto has 2g, 9a and is a +9 this season....while Del Zotto has been much better than last season, I still think that he has been too inconsistant and if not for Sauer his defensive inadequacies wo...

Checking In on Evgeny Grachev

Evgeny Grachev was one of the most highly touted Rangers prospects until the club traded him to St. Louis this past June for a third round pick, used on Steven Fogarty. The organization was criticized for “giving up” on Grachev and trading him away for “so little.” We were one of the blogs curious about the trade.  It turned out that Grachev asked for a trade, and that the...

Pregame: Rangers Seek Bounce-Back Effort Against Lightning

The reason behind Monday's 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs to break a five-game winning streak at the time was quite simple: the Rangers only showed up for half of the game. Well, I guess that isn't necessarily the proper way to put it. What I should say is that it took the Blueshirts 30 minutes to get going against Toronto, therefore leaving them with a shortage of time...

Mark Messier Announces He Will Play In Alumni Game

Former New York Rangers great and captain Mark Messier has announced that he will take part in the NHL Alumni Game against the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1st intermission of the Rangers against the Tampa Bay Lighting on MSG Network tonight. Messier was supposed to undergo shoulder surgery at the beginning of December and it [...]

Video: Mark Messier Announces His Addition to Alumni Game Roster

… I knew Mark would find a way to play!  You cannot have an Alumni Game with the Rangers being a part of it and no Mark Messier, it’s just wrong. But Mark delayed his shoulder surgery and will be putting on a Blueshirt for all to see in Philadelphia. Can’t wait!

It’s Go Time!

Game 25. First of three in four nights, and four in six. Rangers still one away from 2,500 all-time wins. Anton Stralman makes his second start as a Ranger, in place of injured Michael Sauer (concussion). Steve Eminger moves up to the second pair with Michael Del Zotto. Erik Christensen remains prucha’d. Henrik Lundqvist in goal. Otherwise, same lineup that lost a five...

Jan Levine: Game 25: TB-NYR, Test for Patchwork Defense

The Rangers and Lightning meet for the second time in less than a week, this time at MSG. Saturday, the Blueshirts rode big plays from Artem Anisimov and Derek Stepan in the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit in what was eventually a 4-2 victory. Tonight's game might even be more difficult as an already patchwork Rangers defense now has to deal with the absence of Michael Sauer...

Freaky Friday

Remind us never to mention how strange things can get covering New York Ranger or New York Islander prospects because it just winds up getting stranger. The theme for Friday night might as well be "How to blow a lead without really trying." We kid you not as we had 6 games where leads were blown, 4 games where teams tried to give away leads and 2 come from behind wins...

Rangers Become Latest Victim of Concussion Epidemic

By Christopher Decker (@HockeyGuy_Chris) This is the year of the concussion. It has to be. It seems that almost as soon as the league cracked down on illegal head shots, the amount of head injuries has practically skyrocketed. Go figure. And it hasn’t all been the result of illegal checks to the head, either. Now, clean shoulder checks to the opposition are also causing concussions...

Keep It Rockin' Hank

Henrik Lundqvist tweets out this pic of him jamming with drummer Jay Wienberg earlier this week......Hank should schedule a concert and donate proceeds to Garden of Dreams. I'd definitely go to that.Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mail me at nyrfan94@yahoo.com.

Ticket contest rules and regulations

OK, tomorrow we will do a predict-the-score contest, the winner getting two tickets to the Ottawa-Rangers game at MSG Jan. 12, courtesy of our Bonehead donor. So let’s review the rules, shall we? (answer: yes). 1) This is the easy part. You pick the score, then a bunch of tiebreakers: game-winning goal, Rangers shots, Sabres shots. Your entry should look something like this...
