Andrew Gross at Rangers Rants has this quote from John Tortorella after Sean Avery's break out performance last night..."Sean played better," Tortorella said. "You could see right away his legs were going. He was pressuring the puck."...he played better?!?!?!? The guy had a sick goal, was a +2 and drew two penalties. I'm pretty sure that's a lot more than playing better. Besides the G.A.S. line Avery was the best forward on the ice for the Rangers last night....i was happy to see Torts get Avery on Richards wing as well as double digit ice time. Maybe he's coming around. Doubtful. In a humorous moment after Avery's goal, he totally punches Jeff Woywitka in the face during his celebration (11 second mark)... Here's a pic of the, Avery's always got to sucker punch someone, even if it's his own teammate. lol...h/t to reader Steve for pointing this out.Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mai...

Sean Avery Ready to Take Next Step

Last week, when forward Sean Avery had just been recalled from the Connecticut Whale of the AHL, I stressed that it would be crucial for Sean to take it easy and do the simple things out on the ice in his first few games in the NHL this season. After all, head coach John Tortorella did say there were better players on this team than Avery last month, so he couldn't afford to...

Rangers/Canes Recap: Six In A Row

The Rangers are now at six in a row. That’s a very impressive streak. You get a short bullet point list because it’s 6am. Sean Avery’s goal was superb. What a great individual effort to get the goal. There was a bit of a defensive breakdown that led to the Canes goal. It happens. The pass from Brad Richards to Dan Girardi on his goal was an amazing pass. Good for Dubi to get...

John Tortorella Postgame: Praises Team Effort In Win Over Carolina

… the Rangers are now on a 6 game win streak, you HAVE to praise the coaching as well.  They started out on a HUGE road trip in Europe only to come back home and play Western Canada. The coaching kept the Rangers players in the game and told them to stick to it and [...]

League Neglecting Rangers' Success

Head coach John Tortorella let it all come out after Friday's 5-1 win over the Hurricanes when he was asked about defenseman Dan Girardi being left off the All-Star ballot and not being recognized as a top player in the National Hockey League. Below are his comments on the matter courtesy of Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants... "Oh, this league," said Tortorella, waving...

Sean Avery Reminds Us How Important He Can Be For Rangers

Last night Sean Avery showed just how effective he can be for the New York Rangers.  In the end he was not the star of the show as Brandon Dubinsky scoring his first goal of the year took away much of the spotlight, but Avery was the Rangers best forward for two periods.  Avery provided energy when much of the lineup was lacking it, scored a beautiful goal top shelf over...

Ongoing Adventures of Sean Avery

Avery Proves Worth With Fight

Before last night's game Zenon Konopka, or whatever his name is, was running his mouth about the Wojtek Wolski hit on Daniel Alfredsson and how there was going to be bad blood on the ice.Well, on his first shift of the game Sean Avery went right over to Konopka and let him know what he thought about those comments. Konopka was not heard from the rest of the game. Minus when he...

Video: Girardi, Boyle and Avery Talk About Win Over Hurricanes

… what a win. And what a goal by Sean Avery in the 1st period. Pure sniper shot there.  Dan Girardi once again played an AMAZING game and deserves to make the All-Star team already. Do not forget that the Dan Girardi write in campaign for the NHL All Star Game starts on Monday!

Postgame: Rangers Make it Six, Beat Hurricanes with Explosive 3rd Period

Before the game I spoke about the lack of production beyond the top offensive line for the Rangers, despite the team being on a five-game winning streak at the time. Tonight, in their 5-1 defeat of the Carolina Hurricanes to make it six straight, the secondary scoring responded with an astounding performance and happened to score all five goals for New York. If you would've showed...

Girardi Not on All Star Ballot Because NHL is Ass-Backwards

After last night's game John Tortorella was asked about Dan Girardi not being on this year's All Star ballot and said this (via Rangers Rants)..."Oh, this league," said Tortorella, waving his hand in disgust. "It's because he's not pedigree. There's no pedigree there. Our league is so ass-backwards when it comes to that. It's not just this year...

N.H.L. Roundup: Rangers Beat Hurricanes for Sixth Straight Win

The Rangers’ Sean Avery opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, after averaging five minutes of playing time in his first three games.

Dan’s the man for Blueshirts

Even looking at tape, John Tortorella can find something new that impresses him about Dan Girardi. On Saturday after practice in Greenburgh, it wasn’t the defenseman’s game-winning goal in Friday night’s win that had caught Tortorella’s eye.

Torts' MSG show begins second season

Follow @thenyrangers Share MSG Network announced today that the second season of “Behind the Bench,” featuring New York Rangers coach John Tortorella and former Rangers coaching legend Mike Keenan, will pre...

PHT: Rangers win 6th straight game

PHT: A Sean Avery highlight reel goal, Brandon Dubinsky’s first goal of the season and a four-goal outburst in the final period led New York to a 5-1 pounding of Carolina.

Prust is Banged Up

John Tortorella tells Blueshirts United that Brandon Prust's struggles are due to him being banged up..."This spread schedule hopefully is going to help him. We're trying to get him healthy, and Prust is a big part of our team, and he has struggled. I believe he has struggled, on the ice, because he's banged up. We just need to get him healthy." In 15 games...
