Trev or Zegras has a reputation for scoring highlight reel goals as he did last night against the Arizona Coyotes. He also doesn’t appear to be afraid to open his mouth and rip into opposing players.

Late in the third period of their 5-0 win over the Yotes, Zegras tried poking home a covered puck that angered an already embarrassed team.

Zegras was crosschecked on the play which started a scrum. Anaheim’s leading goal scorer, Troy Terry got involved and what subsequently lit up by veteran Jay Beagle. After landing three to four solid shots, he was pulled away by referees.

Terry left the game with a cut on his head, despite never once dropping his gloves.

Trevor Zegras laces into Jay Beagle

During his postgame press conference, Zegras ripped into not only Beagle but possibly his own teammates and referees.

“There’s two minutes left in the game, we’re up 5-0, our best player, our leading goal scorer, one of the best players, in my opinion, in the whole league takes a shot, or I take a shot, he comes in to help me. I’m not going to name the player but I get that he’s gonna punch him maybe once, but the fact that he’s down and he’s not engaged in the fight, and you’re gonna hit him three more times?”

“I think it’s embarrassing. I think he should be embarrassed. I’m not going to comment any further on whether or not I think he should’ve even been able to get to Troy while he was on the ice but I’m embarrassed that he even got that far. I appreciate Troy sticking up for me because I think that’s a nonsense crosscheck with two minutes left in a 5-0 game. I’m embarrassed for whoever that was– I’m not going to say his name. I think the league should step in and do something about it.”

“I get you’re going to hit me in the back. You don’t punch a guy when he’s down. Especially a 32-goal scorer in the NHL who is a superstar. I think it’s embarrassing. I think it’s a bad look for the league and for the player that did it. It’s humiliating, and I think he should be f***ing punished.”

Several corrections need to be made to Zegras’ comments, which were obviously taken in a heated moment.

The incident occurred with 5:27 left in the game, not two minutes. Terry was never down on the ice when Beagle was hitting him, only after the punches stopped.

Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins was also not pleased calling Beagle a “coward” for fighting Terry.
