Yesterday got a little crazy between the Mike Rupp trade and the recall of JT MIller and Brandon Mashinter. So here's some loose ends to tie-up...
- The Mike Rupp for Darroll Powe and Nick Palmieri trade will save the Rangers $500,000 against the cap this year and next year.
...so wait, Sather turned a broken down enforcer into a younger, shot blocking, pk guy, a prospect AND saved money against the cap? Officially convinced he has naked pictures of every GM in the league.
- Speaking of blocked shots, Powe had 91 of them last year. Ryan Callahan had 88.
...safe to say Tortorella is going to like this guy.
- According to the Rangers website, Powe will be wearing #8, while JT Miller will wear #47 and Brandon Mashinter #40.

Mashinter Watch: Scores In Whale Loss Last Night
Yesterday, I posted about how the newly acquired CT Whale player Brandon Mashinter could be someone who sparks this Rangers team. While they obviously didn't need him last night, the fact that John Tortorella doesn't feel comfortable giving Mike Rupp (4:28) or Stu Bickel (3:27) more than five minutes of ice time, means there's still a need for a fourth line energy guy...

Rangers trade Mike Rupp to Minnesota for Darroll Powe/Nick Palmieri
Per Bob McKenzie, the Rangers have sent Mike Rupp to Minnesota for Darroll Powe and Nick Palmieri. Rupp, who was signed last year to a three-year, $1.5m per year deal, was used sparingly in Torts’ system, but was a very useful locker room addition. In 24/7, it was evidenced that Torts leaned on Rupp in the locker room. That said, if you’re not going to use a $1.5 million...
