It’s been a little while since our last UFA of the day feature, but with less than one month until the start of NHL free agency, I figured this would be a good time to profile some of the best free agents that the Canucks may have their eye on. Today, lets look at Barret Jackman. Name: Barret Jackman Age: 31 Size: 6’0″, 205 lbs Why the Canucks might want him: Barret Jackman is a stay-at-home defenceman who has played his entire career with the St Louis Blues. He’s gritty, tough, and brings an element of the game that the Canucks have been missing. He has been one of the Blues most dependable defencemen for about ten years. He was second in even strength ice time and first in shorthanded ice time this season. He was first on the Blues in blocked shots and second among Blues d-men in hits. Why they might not want him: Jackman plays the game hard, and he has a lot of mileage on his 31 year old body. He also doesn’t do a whole lot offensively, which might not fit into the Canucks up tempo style (if indeed they decide they still want to play that way). What I would do: I would sign Jackman a three year deal at $4 million per season. That’s an increase on his current deal that pays him $3.625 million. X-Factor: Jackman is from Trail, BC and might be willing to take a little bit less to play in Vancouver. He’s also the type of player that is likely to elevate his game in the playoffs.

Vladimir Tarasenko Could Give Blues Needed Offensive Boost

The St. Louis Blues signed Russian phenom and Blues 2010 first round pick  (16th overall), Vladimir Tarasenko to a three year entry level contract this past week.  If the Blues learned one major lesson from the second round playoff sweep they endured at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings, it is that they need more offense.  Defense is something the Blues understand very well and...
